Highways Maintenance Senior Technician

Lincolnshire, United Kingdom Lincolnshire County Council Full time

We are delighted to be recruiting to three new positions of a Highway Maintenance Senior Technician. Senior technician's will sit in either the Surfacing and Patching Team, Drainage Asset and Cyclical Works Team, or the Traffic Regulation Team.

Lincolnshire County Council is an ambitious and progressive organisation that strives to provide a modern and responsive public service to the residents of Lincolnshire.

Our Highways Infrastructure is seen as high priority by our elected members, as it supports the local economy, provides access to jobs and services, and enables thousands of visitors to experience our beautiful coast and countryside. We have a buoyant workload which has seen significant increases to our highway maintenance programme of works.

About The Role

The position of Senior Technician will involve site surveys, design works, producing works order packs for contractors, site supervision and audits, updating inventory data, engagement with members of the public and dealing with transactions and complaints.

A typical week for officers would see you having a team day each week in one of the local offices where we eat cake and biscuits whilst catching up on scheme progress and managers updates. You may then have a day on site with our contractor's team assessing proposed and ongoing works, a day measuring proposed future works, and two days working from home completing scheme design data.

You will need a good level of technical knowledge, be able to engage with the community and have the ability to inspect and place works orders to the Alliance contractors. These diverse posts have a varied workload including the coordination of works, daily communication with a variety of customers and groups in a range of methods and assisting in the development and use of suitable IT systems and processes.

We have a flexible approach to working patterns and base each individual at the office located closest to their residence to avoid unnecessary traveling. So you will need a valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle to enable you to be mobile across the County.

We have a manager dedicated to developing an internal highway maintenance training programme for each individual, to ensure candidates are able to continue to learn, attain their full potential within the organisation, and progress through the levels we offer.

We recognise that individual needs differ and you will be supported to achieve the best mix for yourself to achieve agreed outcomes, and we closely monitor individuals' workloads and progress, to ensure a work life balance is achieved.

About The Team

The Operational Asset Management Team is responsible for delivering a wide variety of highway maintenance works in conjunction with our partners Balfour Beatty. This includes surfacing, patching recycling, footway reconstruction, minor improvement schemes, drainage, surface treatments, lining and signing maintenance, traffic regulation schemes, cyclical operations.

We have an identified 3-year programme of schemes agreed to enable forward planning and resource management with our supply chain. Each scheme can range in value from £10,000 for minor improvements, to £1m for large surfacing replacement works, with innovation and sustainability at the heart of all decision making on proposed treatment selection.

About Our Offer

Along with a competitive salary we are offering:

  • A Contributory pension
  • Comprehensive benefits package including excellent discount schemes and cycle to work
  • Flexible working policies
  • Career progression opportunities
  • A generous annual leave entitlement plus the option to buy more
