The Assistant Financial Controller is an integral member of the Finance Team reporting in to the Group Financial Controller, with a key role in ensuring the robust day-to-day operation of the team and producing management information. The role is integral to the seamless functioning of our finance department.

Take charge of the day-to-day operations, owning the monthly reporting cycle and ensuring the books are closed with precision and aligned with tight deadlines.You'll not only be a key player in the smooth running of the financial landscape at Thredd but will also actively lead on diverse projects such as treasury management, automations, accounting policies, and external/internal audits. This role provides a unique opportunity for someone who thrives on autonomy, seeking to spearhead all aspects of daily operations and reporting within a finance department.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day operations, overseeing cash, and managing the accounts payable functions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely recording of all transactions in our accounting system (Netsuite).
  • Process monthly UK and International payroll accounting, ensuring compliance with regulations and working closely with HR business partners.
  • Oversee compliance with all accounting policies, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness. Expectation to initially introduce and maintain an accounting playbook.
  • Coordinate with the external auditors for annual audits to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
  • Coordinate with the external tax advisors for all tax compliance related items (VAT, GST, ERS, Corporation Tax etc) to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
  • Oversees the 13-week cash flow for reasonableness of future disbursements in A/P ledger, forecast receipts in A/R Ledger and corporate budgets. Ensures sufficient cash is available to meet upcoming payments.
  • Plan and actively participate in automation of accounting processes by working closely with our automation business partners.
  • Oversees the group bank account reconciliations which involves working closely with the Credit Control Manager and the AP Specialist.
  • Oversees and supervises the accounts payable function (1 body) to ensure accuracy of GL Coding, projects, departments, sufficient budget owner approval levels and translation of invoice detail.
  • Review payroll calculations for accuracy and ensures payrolls are paid on time. This involves posting relevant payroll accounting entries associated with payroll whilst ensuring sufficient cash is available to meet payroll requirements.
  • Proactively identify and implement automated process improvements within the control environment function, optimizing efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Manage the financial month-end process, including recording transactions, journal entries, reconciling account balances, and preparing monthly reports.
  • Perform monthly analysis of budget-to-actual variances to identify key insights and areas for improvement.
  • Identifies any expenditures which can potentially be capitalizable under IAS 38 working closely with the Product and Technology teams.
  • Assist with process improvements and contribute to information system upgrades and implementations.
  • Responsible for timely completion and calculation of all aspects of monthly commissions and bonus payments for Thredd associates.
  • Handle other ad-hoc tasks and projects as required, showcasing adaptability and a proactive approach.
  • Benchmarking: Identify industry benchmarks and peer group comparisons to evaluate the company's financial performance and position.
  • Dashboard Development: Create and maintain financial dashboards for real-time monitoring of KPIs, facilitating quick and data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with sales, account management, implementations, operations, and other departments to gather relevant data and ensure alignment between financial forecasts and operational plans.
  • Analyze business process and recommend control improvements to the Group Financial Controller.
    Requirements

    Professional accounting designation.
    • Previous accounting experience in a fast paced environment.

    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Power-Bi.
    • Prior experience of management of at least 1 junior is highly desirable.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of the team and meet tight deadlines.
    • An exceptional ability to prioritise and follow up on due tasks
    • Experience with full cycle accounting and bookkeeping practices.
    • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail paramount.
    • Proficiency in Netsuite or similar accounting software.
    • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Strong understanding of IFRS and GAAP accounting principles and financial concepts.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
