The UK Division is split into multiple business units, this role will work across all units to deliver the Group Risk Management Framework (RMF) Implementation Plan for Retail UK.

The implementation of the RMF plan will improve the Group's management of Non-Financial Risk through an improved risk management process and enhanced control environment.

The Retail UK Division is split into multiple business units, this role will work across all units to deliver the Group Risk Management Framework (RMF) Implementation Plan in line with agreed milestones and deadlines for Retail UK.

Some travel will be required

In this role you will lead the team charged with responsibility for delivering the Group RMF Implementation plan for Retail UK. The lead will represent Retail UK on the Group Programme and along with the delivery team, be the key interface between the Group Programme, UK Executive and Individual Business Unit Senior Management within Retail UK.

  • The Group Risk Management Framework Programme and corresponding implementation plans are split into the following 8 chapters:
  1. Risk Policy Refresh
  2. Risk Appetite Statement
  3. Operational Risk Management - Methodology Refresh
  4. Risk Policy Refresh Implementation
  5. Process Mapping
  6. KRIs & Controls
  7. Operational Risk Management - Process Led RCSA
  8. Radar Enablement
  • All elements of the implementation plan need to be governed and managed effectively to ensure the full programme is delivered across Retail UK 1LOD in line with the Group defined expectations and timelines.
  • In relation to Chapter 4, this includes gap analysis, creation and delivery of implementation plans to ensure each Business Unit within Retail UK is compliant with all relevant Operational, Conduct & Regulatory Risk policies.
  • In relation to Chapter 5, this includes ensuring all critical processes are identified and mapped across the end-to-end lifecycle for each Retail UK Product & Service Enablement Process.
  • In relation to Chapter 6, this includes ensuring appropriate involvement and input into the Group Control & KRI wave squads to ensure outputs are suitable for use across Retail UK.
  • In relation to Chapter 7, this includes ensuring the new Process Led RCSA and risk profile for Retail UK is correct and reflective of both 1LOD & 2LOD views.
  • In relation to Chapter 8, this includes the training and transition to the new RADAR system and development of reporting / MI for Retail UK within 1LOD to effectively manage its risks on an ongoing basis.
  • Build and lead an effective team of Retail UK RMF Delivery Managers to implement the Group RMF Implementation plan for Retail UK.
  • Continuous coaching and development of the team ensuring appropriate goal setting and regular thrive reviews.
  • As a senior member of the Delivery Team, this role assumes an active role in the management of the framework across Retail UK
  • Responsible for structure, content and effectiveness of the regular Retail UK programme updates and any onwards Group reporting.
  • Preparation of update papers and submissions for Board/ExCo/ERC/RORC/BMC in relation to the delivery progress and implementation of the plan for Retail UK.
  • Develop and deliver all 1LOD Retail UK operational risk MI and analysis and provide recommendations for improvement via a consolidated view of risks and issues to meet customer, business and management needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring Retail UK has the right representation in Group/Divisional risk / programme forums.
  • Establish and lead ad hoc working groups/initiatives as agreed with/requested by Head of Business Controls.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Senior Management Teams across Retail UK and positively influence the efficiency and effectiveness of their Risk Management within their commercial agenda.
  • Advise business owners on the design of new or updated KRIs and Controls and adequacy of existing ones in place to mitigate Operational, Conduct and Regulatory risks.
  • Provide risk expertise to the business unit teams, embedding and monitoring the use of risk tools and frameworks within their operating processes, to improve risk management and deliver compliance with Group requirements.
  • Monitor adherence to Operational, Conduct & Regulatory Risk Policies across Retail UK.
  • Support and advise the business unit SLT in the formulation of robust coordinated actions to remediate risk issues or control gaps identified, and influence action owners to complete actions in a timely manner.

  • Strong Risk Management experience at a leadership / SME level
  • Ability to provide intellectual rigour to risk assessment and control design, development of business solutions and decision making
  • Current, in-depth knowledge of regulatory and industry guidelines and best practices for risk management and mitigation within financial services
  • Strong financial and analytical acumen with the ability to manage a broad and diverse agenda
  • Experience of leading and developing a professional team
  • Comprehensive understanding of current UK Retail Banking Regulations with practical experience of managing regulatory risks, controls and issues.
  • Proven track record at a senior management level in Financial Services, Operations, or Risk Analysis with a good understanding of the operational risk frameworks
  • Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail, experience at providing training and development and a creative problem solver.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with proven ability to influence and build relationships both internally and externally at the highest levels, demonstrating emotional intelligence, resilience and independence as well as an ability to challenge the status quo.
  • Ability to be decisive and demonstrate sound judgment on a consistent basis.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation and verbal communication skills with excellent proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
