Swadlincote, Derbyshire, United Kingdom Mercia Academy Full time

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to develop their skills and future career in a vibrant and innovative Secondary School. Mercia Academy is a 11-16 school in a small town close to the Peak District and near to the cities of Derby and Nottingham. We are looking to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic Teacher of Design & Technology. We are delighted to be part of the school rebuilding programme; we move into purpose built temporary accommodation on site in the Autumn Term and to the permanent new build in 2027.

Working with our planned curriculum, the right candidate will engage and inspire our students, allowing them to make outstanding progress and achieve strong results. We offer a wide range of professional development opportunities and are in the process of joining the Lionheart Trust giving wider opportunities for support and sharing good practice. We have a track record of recognising potential and developing leadership within school with internal promotion and other opportunities.

The school prides itself on the wide educational experience offered to students, including the exciting RISE programme in Year 7, varied enrichment opportunities through our PRIDE Award and a curriculum that supports success in academic and vocational qualifications. All students have personal laptops and staff maximise the opportunities offered through this technology, as part of the curriculum and for home learning.

Across the Creative faculty, Technology currently offers a range of specialist courses at KS4, including Construction and Engineering. We are eager to appoint someone who can build upon our current offer at KS3 in Resistant Materials, as well as helping to expand our KS4 pathways. All learners at KS3 study a range of disciplines across Technology in specially equipped workshops and uptake at KS4 is consistently strong. Learners really enjoy their creative and practical contact time and are becoming increasingly more confident in Tehcnology, which is reflected in positive results.

We recognise that a journey to academic success requires a breadth of specialist support, and our school ethos and core values mean that students benefit from a team approach where quality teaching is supported by our clearly defined behaviour policy and enhanced by strong, intuitive pastoral support.

Please apply using the attached application form and include a letter outlining your suitability for the post. We welcome visits and are happy to discuss the role further. Please contact Jacky Scott to arrange a visit or with any enquiries.

Diversity at our core: As a school we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and this position is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. All applicants must be able to provide documentation to prove their right to work in the UK.
