SOAS University of London is the leading Higher Education institution in Europe specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East. SOAS University of London is positioned to play a leading role in reimagining higher education globally, with a new strategic plan in place as the basis for the renewal and revitalisation of the School which commits SOAS to both student responsiveness and research intensity. SOAS is moving towards a new model of international partnerships which is responsive to the transnational character of our global challenges.

About the Department

We are an energetic, creative and committed Advancement team with significant success in raising philanthropic income year on year, and engaging alumni and key stakeholders around the world. Situated within The Directorate, Advancement is a key function which works closely with the Vice Chancellor and his office to deliver core strategic objectives in philanthropy and alumni engagement. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping the team to deliver these key strategic goals.

About the Role

SOAS seeks to appoint a Philanthropy Officer to work within the Advancement team. This is a central position within the team, requiring a creative and enthusiastic fundraiser with the commitment to raise funds for SOAS, to increase levels of engagement and participation, particularly within the SOAS alumni community.

This post will build on SOAS' regular giving programme, raising funds through targeted direct mail and email appeals, telephone fundraising appeals, online and digital fundraising, and face-to-face fundraising (up to £10,000). Reporting to the Advancement Services Lead, the postholder will work closely with the Operations team to ensure accurate data is disseminated and uploaded throughout fundraising appeals, the Director of Advancement to deliver appeals in line with the fundraising strategic objectives of the university, the Philanthropy team to feed potential prospects into the prospect pipeline, and the Alumni Engagement team to engage and galvanise alumni groups with fundraising appeals locally and globally.

This is an exciting time to join the team as the successful candidate will have the opportunity to establish and develop new fundraising appeals and to build an ambitious regular giving strategy. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, have proven knowledge of fundraising techniques, a sound understanding of issues relating to data protection, strong project management skills, attention to detail, the ability to create impactful content across a range of fundraising channels, and an openness to innovate regular giving techniques. The successful candidate will have fundraising experience (in the Higher Education or charity sector) and will be looking to take the next step in their career as a fundraising professional.
