About the role

Here at Smokefree North Somerset we are looking to recruit two Stop Smoking Advisors to join our successful team, supporting smokers to stop smoking. We need someone who is either a fully qualified stop smoking advisor or is willing to work towards qualification with relevant knowledge and experience of behaviour change.

These are exciting times to work in smoking cessation. As a service we have received additional funding to support more people to stop smoking and we have received the highest funding allocation for the government's world-first, Swap to Stop programme. We are committed to a smokefree future for our population, looking to support more smokers than ever before.

This role is a permanent role.

This role allows for flexible working involving a blend of home-based and clinic/office based working.

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. Please be advised that this office will be closed by 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood. This will be at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset.

About you

The following skills and experience would be advantageous, though training will be provided:

  • NVQ level 2 in literacy and numeracy
  • Level 2 Stop Smoking Advisor Qualification or willing to work towards this.
  • Experience using case management systems for recording service users and/or patient details and details of interactions.
  • Awareness and general understanding of the harms of tobacco smoking, relevant local and national policies, aims and legislation on smoking and smoking cessation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding protocols and the threshold levels for service users' groups.
  • Ability to engage with service users using a person centred empathetic non-judgemental approach, motivating, and supporting individuals to change their behaviour.
  • Significant experience of supporting smokers to stop smoking or other areas of behaviour change particularly with service users from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Experience of organising and facilitating groups in a range of settings.
  • Experience of partnership working across agencies.
  • Ability to use basic IT software packages such as email, Word and Powerpoint.
