Actuarial Manager - IFRS17

Our Reserving team has a key position in our evolving business. The team is crucial to our financial and regulatory reporting and pivotal to providing insight on our business performance. This business performance includes an IFRS17 basis from 2023.

The role requires bringing together sound technical knowledge and inquisitiveness with clear and impactful communication to management. This one year FTC role will work across project and BAU teams to test, run and communicate results of IFRS17 reporting as it emerges as a management focus.

Innovation and Insight

  • Providing insight to drivers of the IFRS17 result compared to UK GAAP and Solvency II
  • Produce analysis that engages management with the result and provides analysis of drivers of the result and movements over time
  • Define improvements to processes to enhance the timing and/or quality of output, considering new ideas and taking risks to achieve this

Data and Processes

  • Consider appropriate data requirements, controls and processes to ensure high levels of data quality
  • Drive improvements to data sources and processes to improve the efficiency of effectiveness of calculations

Communication

  • Lead interactions with other areas of the business - particularly finance and FP&A - to ensure results are accurate, understood and driving appropriate actions
  • Make clear recommendations for management action and engage with external parties to ensure there is high confidence in results
  • Role modelling the actuarial team culture of high performance and inclusivity

What you'll need:

For this particular role we need you to have:

  • Experience in a reserving actuarial role considering appropriate analysis and solving problems
  • Actuarial knowledge of accounting standards, including some IFRS 17 experience but a desire to acquire this knowledge is more important than coming in as an expert
  • A passion for establishing robust and efficient processes
  • Good logical reasoning skills coupled with commercial acumen
  • The ability to translate complicated considerations into clear actions for the reserving team or management
  • Excellent communication skills
