CHP Electro - Mechanical Maintenance Technician - Natural Gas
An industry leading Renewable Energy company are looking to recruit a CHP engineer experienced in natural gas reciprocating engines.
We are seeking two skilled and experienced Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Engineer specializing in Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems with a focus on natural gas applications. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our CHP systems, specifically those powered by natural gas.

- Location: in the area between Manchester, Sheffield and Stoke-on-trent and surrounding areas would be ideally situated.
- SALARY: 40, ,000 GROSS PA + Over time.

- A non-discretionary bonus is also available and will be reviewed annually subject to targets being met and how the company prospers.
- Gas safe certified - Training can be offered if not certified
- MAN, CHP unit training in Germany (1 week)

There is no charge for surveys or proposals, and we can have CHP systems operational in under 6 months, with an investment payback of around one year. CHP systems generate low cost, low CO2 electricity and use the heat produced by generators for heating and hot water.
Powered by natural gas, biomethane or mixed with hydrogen, our CHPs convert 40% of the energy into electricity and 51% into usable heat; 9% is unrecoverable energy losses.
There are also no non-commodity charges on CHP-generated electricity, which saves 30% compared to grid electricity.
The role:
The candidate will ideally be skilled and competent in all aspects of mechanical and electrical maintenance on engines with a solid understanding of assembly and disassembly of engine parts according to manufacturer operating instructions.
Job Title: CHP Electro - Mechanical Maintenance Technician - Natural Gas
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities on CHP systems utilizing natural gas as the primary fuel source.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and mechanical issues in CHP equipment, including generators, engines, turbines, and associated control systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute scheduled maintenance shutdowns, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum system efficiency.
- Perform upgrades and modifications to CHP systems to enhance their performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and spare parts inventory.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, providing rapid and effective solutions to minimize disruptions in CHP system operation.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to proactively implement improvements and ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with procurement and vendors to source high-quality replacement parts and equipment for CHP systems.
- Equipment: Striping down engines, Oil changes, Filter changes, Spark plugs, cylinders, Heat exchanges, Pumps, flow rates and Pressured systems.
Qualifications:
- BTEC or Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of CHP systems, with a focus on natural gas applications.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, control systems, and instrumentation associated with CHP technology.
- Familiarity with relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet maintenance schedules.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations for emergency response.

This role is a hybrid role where the person will need to be located around the Northampton & London region as their primary location of work is near here but there will also be other locations across the UK which cover/maintenance will be required.
In addition, a solid level of understanding electrical panel drawings and engine controls is also advantageous, although training will be provided for the successful candidate.
