Job Summary

Assisting in the delivery of capital and Revenue projects in order to manage and maintain the transport network in a safe and suitable condition. The post will be based within the Roads Network Operations Team based at Broomhill depot Kirkintilloch and works on a hybrid office/ homework level, subject to the demands of the service.

The Council's Roads Neighbourhood Services is looking to recruit a street lighting Electrical Technician, to undertake a range of inspection and maintenance duties as well as to assist the Senior Technician in providing the Council and other stakeholders/Client Departments with a professional service ensuring best value is delivered at all times.

The postholder is required to take specific responsibility for delivering allocated projects and maintenance/compliance programmes in accordance with current legislation and best practice.

Tasks will include undertaking surveys/audits, upkeep of statutory records, preparation of specifications, design of new street lighting scheme contracts documentation and the supervision and management of contracts (and contractors) from inception to completion including sign off certification. This also includes budgetary responsibility for projects/contracts within the remit of the post, including financial monitoring and control of expenditure.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a determination to succeed and deliver first class results with a strong customer focus. They must be able to work both on their own initiative, with minimum supervision, and as part of a team.

East Dunbartonshire Council operates an out of hours emergency stand by rota to ensure the street lighting networks safe operation, the candidate is expected to participate and will receive the prescribed allowance and payments whilst on duty.

PVG / Disclosure Scotland

The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria

Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate's first salary payment.

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee's wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by HR Services Lead.

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee's final salary.

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
