Our client a global science and chemicals organisation are looking to hire a Paralegal for a 12-month contract position.

The Legal function in which this role will sit, includes Company Secretarial and Ethics and Compliance, comprising lawyers, paralegals, compliance specialists and support staff, who provide expert legal advice and guidance across the whole of the business.

The role of Paralegal forms part of the Legal Hub Team, which provides flexible and high-quality support to a wide range of areas within the business, partnering closely with lawyers in the Legal function to deliver this. The role reports directly to the Legal Hub Team Leader (Senior Legal Counsel) and will involve close working relationships with the other Legal Hub Team members and wider legal function. Working as part of our team you will get the opportunity to develop a wide range of legal skills, have the chance to meet and influence a wide range of stakeholders, support major projects, and have a lot of fun along the way.

Your responsibilities are likely to include:

Playing a key role in the establishment and rollout of our new legal workflow system, including taking responsibility for monitoring and responding to a variety of queries and requests in a timely manner.Making judgments regarding financial and strategic materiality and escalating or notifying the appropriate individuals where applicable.Supporting the Legal Function and the Legal Hub Team's strategic goals, including the Legal strategy, the Legal Hub Team's culture and brand, what we do and don't do, and ways of working, including the rollout of our new operating Handbook and Modernisation projects.Assisting in the drafting and negotiation of contracts, with levels of support and supervision depending on the value and nature of the contract.Supporting and coordinating on various compliance-related topics (ABC, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Competition, Export Controls and Sanctions), including conducting of due diligence and associated risk assessments and planning and delivery of training across the business.Supporting the implementation of the Whistleblowing Hotline, including tracking and follow up of various cases.Promoting Code of Ethics and other Policies.Being open to support sector or function legal experts in relation to a wide variety of matters, including potentially company secretarial, mergers and acquisitions, finance, IT, IP and litigation.Conducting legal research, summarising contracts, and managing and updating contract templates, play books and guardrails.Building an effective network both within the Legal function and the business functions you support. Skills and experience required for the role: Essential - At least 12 months prior work as a Paralegal in the UK or overseas within an in-house legal team or within the commercial division of a legal practice firm.Essential - A law degree or law conversion in the UK or overseas.Experience of working with multiple stakeholders simultaneously and balancing competing priorities.Strong communication skills.An ability to assess materiality and recognise risk. This will be a hybrid opportunity requiring 3 days per week based from the London office. Pay will be based on an hourly rate and subject to skills and experience.
