The project:

The role is for a BI developer specialising in the Microsoft technology stack. It is a client-facing role supporting fee-earning projects and programmes.
Mace is a forward-thinking construction consultancy that can offer you the opportunity to contribute to some of the nation's largest and most exciting construction projects across a range of industries and sectors, including transport, healthcare, education, government and nuclear.

Our growing digital centre of excellence team is responsible for enabling and enhancing project delivery through the development of digital tools, processes and reports that enable data-driven decision making.

As part of your role, you will interface with the Mace project team and occasionally stakeholders from other organisations, if working on a joint venture project or directly for a client. You will be part of the digital centre of excellence community, sharing knowledge and experience with other BI & data professionals. You will be expected to work with Microsoft's 'low code' Power Platform suite, principally with Power BI, as well as SharePoint, Teams and the M365 Office suite. There is an opportunity to grow your role into other Power Platform applications such as Power Apps, Power Automate and Fabric should you choose to.

Any knowledge or experience of supporting BI & data analytics software and languages such as Python, JSON, R, JavaScript, SQL, etc. would be a benefit but is not a requirement.

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

Knowledge of good data structure and development processesAwareness of data security and role-based permissionsUnderstanding of techniques for analysis and visualisation of information, e.g. though charts, reports and dashboardsUnderstanding of working in a consultancy environment and management of stakeholders including clients, project managers and data owners.

You'll be responsible for:

As an assistant Power BI developer, you will generally work under the direction of a senior colleague, although you may work independently on short-term, low complexity projects. You will contribute to the delivery of the overall solution by collaborating with others and/or being responsible for a specific area of delivery.The principal responsibility of the role is to contribute to the development of digital tools, processes and outputs, including interactive Power BI reports, that support the wider project team and enable better delivery of projects for our clients.You will be expected to adhere to a structured development lifecycle that includes requirements definition, design, development and testing, user acceptance testing, deployment, handover and post-implementation support.You may contribute to requirements definition, documentation and training materials as part of a wider team, so effective communication skills are a must. You will be expected to attend all training and other sessions organised by the centre of excellence, as well as keeping your knowledge of Power BI up to date through self-directed learning.

You'll need to have:

Demonstrates understanding of effective visual layering, selecting the right visuals for the type of information displayed.Makes use of organisational features such as layout, headers and tooltips to convey context.Applies the fundamentals of data transformation (such as cleaning and structuring data for reporting), through the use of power query or methods outside of the BI tech stack, such as Python.Creates basic DAX measures to support report use cases.Able to articulate where to use calculated measures vs query calculations or calculating at source.Understands star schema design and its benefits.Able to link two related tables in a data model using an ID or key field.
