About us

We seek to appoint a full-time Senior Research Fellow to strengthen the work of the Health and Social Surveys Research Group (HSSRG) within the Research Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London. This position will be focused on conducting new research using the ONS Longitudinal Study and providing user support to other 2021 Census data as well as enhancing the research outputs of the HSSRG, providing interdisciplinary expertise across social sciences and quantitative methods, with particular emphasis on the implications for data reuse.

About the role

You will work with Professor Nicola Shelton, and the wider UCL project team from CeLSIUS and UK Census Support and with external stakeholders. The post will involve research using Census data focused on two aspects: creating LIDS (Longitudinal Impossible Data Set) a synthetic data set based on linked England and Wales Censuses and creating user support materials and providing service support for other secure UK census data. Appointment Details:


• This position is available from 1st July 2024 with funding available until 31st December 2025.


• Appointment at Grade 8


• This is offered at 1.0 FTE (Full-time). Job share at 50% for 2 staff will also be considered.

About you


• The successful applicant will have knowledge of UK Census data across multiple relevant domains is essential.
• A PhD in quantitative social sciences or a relevant discipline (or equivalent postgraduate research experience) with a significant quantitative component is also required.
• Experience using relevant software packages: STATA or R or Python and experience in data management of large datasets is also essential.
