Senior Production Controller

London, Greater London, United Kingdom 2019 Full time

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Production Controller to join our Cornerstone Production team on a 6-month fixed term contract.

As a Senior Production Controller, you will take the lead on a list of titles, working with multiple areas of the business to produce high quality books.

You will manage the production of Del Rey and Cornerstone Press titles and be trusted to give production advice and support to other members of the team and areas of business.

You'll work closely and collaboratively with internal teams across Editorial, Design, Sales, Inventory, Finance as well as external suppliers, to identify and implement solutions for manufacturing, costing and scheduling challenges.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage costing and scheduling to ensure titles are delivered on time, to budget and to the expected level of quality.
  • Supply archive files and e-book files where required plus any other material required for digital products, in a timely manner and ensuring DAM is always up to date.
  • Maintain complete and accurate information in Biblio.
  • Effectively manage relationships and negotiate with key external suppliers (printers, repro houses, typesetters)
  • Support and mentor junior members of the Production team when required.
  • Use your understanding of the needs and goals of the Publishing House, Cornerstone, to inform decision making.

About you:

  • You'll need proven experience of mono printing as well as a range of pre-press and digital workflows.
  • You will be able to organise information effectively and keep track of all information relating to your printings, suppliers and processes.
  • You'll have experience or knowledge of colour printing and non-trade subscriptions.
  • You'll be comfortable with prioritising and managing a busy workload, with a calm, positive and flexible approach.
  • You'll be a team player but equally happy to work independently on your own initiative.

Our approach to hybrid working:

While our offices are places for you to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, having flexibility about where you work is just as important for doing your best work and for your wellbeing. So, we don't have a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to how we work in different teams across Penguin Random House UK.

This is a hybrid role, based in our offices in London, as there are activities and meetings that you will need to support in-person. We are happy to discuss hybrid working arrangements with you during your recruitment process.

About Penguin:

We're the UK's largest publisher; made up of some 2,000 people and publishing over 1,500 books each year. Our doors are open to all kinds of talent. In a constantly evolving industry, we work hard to stretch the definition of the word publisher. Here, you'll work with a breadth of talent who all play their part to make each of our books a success. Together, we make books for everyone because a book can change anyone.

Application deadline: Please apply with your CV and cover letter telling us why you're a great fit for the role and why the opportunity is of interest to you by Sunday 4th August.

What you can expect from us:

Salary: Circa £35,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

Our people are the heart of our business, and we work hard to support a culture of responsibility and recognition. Our benefits include:

  • Financial – discounted shopping, season ticket loan, rental deposit loan
  • Wellbeing – healthcare cash plan, employee assistance, gym loan
  • Lifestyle – taste card, tech scheme, free and discounted books
