About the Role

The Legal Counsel role in the Legal P&C / L&H Transactions EMEA team is a strategic position supporting Swiss Re's P&C and L&H Reinsurance business units in EMEA. The main focus is on facilitating reinsurance transactions in the Life & Health, including Longevity sectors, while ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

In this role you will:

  • Work closely with a diverse group of professionals within the transactions core team, specializing in Life & Health structured transactions, particularly Longevity deals
  • Provide legal advice and support for complex structured transactions, including retrocessions and index-based solutions
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts for reinsurance transactions, ensuring legal compliance
  • Conduct legal and regulatory due diligence, analyzing and advising on relevant matters
  • Support the development of efficient transactional policies and best practices
  • Facilitate international coordination on legal/regulatory issues
  • Manage outside counsel as needed, and conduct internal presentations on legal topics
  • Stay updated on legal and regulatory trends impacting the business

About the Team

This role reports to Legal Lead P&C & L&H Transactions EMEA, presenting an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a global team of legal professionals. The team operates in a culturally diverse environment, ensuring governance standards are met while supporting the business effectively.

About you

Qualification and Experience:

We are seeking an individual who:

  • Displays a proactive and client-focused mindset
  • Is a qualified lawyer in the UK or any EU jurisdiction, with at least five years of post-qualification experience
  • Has experience in (re)insurance law, transactions, and regulatory matters
  • Possesses strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
  • Demonstrates a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
