Lush has been a pioneer in inventing and selling cosmetics that don't require any packaging, like the now iconic shampoo bar and the bath bomb. For the products that do require packaging, we prioritise the use of recycled materials and have had a take-back programme in place for over 10 years - recently updated to include more items of packaging. In Lush's ambition to take full responsibility for the waste we create, since 2015, we have been developing the Green Hub in Poole.

The Green Hub is Lush's internal repair, reuse and recycling plant responsible for the important work of processing all waste streams from the manufacturing sites, as well as the packaging returned by customers in our stores. As a goal, we aim to make our internal and customer packaging as circular as possible, making sure materials are recycled back into packaging (closed loop), or cleaned and reused. The Green Hub is instrumental in making that happen.

In the last two years, the Green Hub has received significant investments, and is considered key to Lush's vision of leaving the world Lusher than we found it. We have recently moved into a new, significantly larger building in Poole, which will house many of the teams that support Lush's environmental functions, including the Green Hub, Spa Laundry, Product Donations, Repairs & Maintenance, Woodshop and Moulds.

The Green Hub attracts many visitors, including school groups, members of the local council and journalists to name but a few, in turn holding a professional manner and communicating confidently with the public is a must.

The Team

The Green Hub team is currently made up of 25 people who facilitate the waste management process and materials processing; including recycling assistants who are based within the building, the van drivers who support the internal logistics and removal of waste from Manufacturing, our in-house laundry facility, and our product donations area who support charities nationwide.

The Role

We are now looking for a Machine Operator who can be fully trained on all of the new and existing machinery and equipment, and be responsible for their smooth running, ensuring that materials are processed in a timely manner and taking into consideration all Health & Safety requirements, as well as maintaining the health of the machinery to ensure quality and longevity.

Responsibilities:

Operating machinery - granulators (2), shredders, DAF unit (water treatment facility), barrel washers, balers, compactor and other pieces of equipment Conduct daily water sample tests Checking the daily operations schedule with the management team Carry out all safety checks before operating the machines Be responsible for the general maintenance of the machines along with checking all machine parts are kept to the highest standard Reporting back to Ops Manager with updates, and ensuring any maintenance issues are communicated to the R&M team in a timely manner When the machines are not in operation you will be expected to help out in other areas of the department Ensuring all PPE is being used at all times by all staff operating the machine Keeping your work area clean and tidy Interacting and communicating confidently with visitors Desired Skills:

Self-motivated, taking a hands-on approach Strong organisational, prioritisation and planning skills Ability to work as a team and use own initiative Problem-solving capabilities Excellent time management Ability to communicate clearly and in a timely manner if further R&M support is required A flexible approach to work - you may be required to work extra hours/shifts in busy periods Machine operational skills are helpful although not essential as training will be provided
