York, York City, United Kingdom University of York Full time

Role
Applications are open for a postdoctoral research associate position (36 months) to perform lab-based research on non-canonical inflammasomes function in human cells in response to bacterial infections in Dr Dave Boucher research group ). The project focuses on mechanisms controlling innate immune responses and the impact of bacterial hijacking on immune responses to LPS and cell death. The project is based within the department of Biology and the York Biomedical Research Institute. The project is funded by a project grant from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (3 years).

Through the project, the PDRA will study the role of inflammatory caspases and the inflammasome pathway in controlling responses to infections in humans. The PDRA will build on strong preliminary data and use a combination of molecular techniques (e.g., western blot, cloning), synthetic biology, cellular immunology (e.g., flow cytometry, Elisa), proteomics and high-resolution microscopy. The candidate's professional development will be supported by strong mentoring and through access to various technical and professional training and conferences throughout the position. The candidate will evolve in a supportive, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment in immunology and haematology.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with skills in immunology and cellular biology.

  • A PhD in a relevant area (e.g., Immunology, Cellular Biology, or Biochemistry).
  • Experience with purification and handling of primary immune cells.
  • Experience with recombinant protein expression and purification desirable.
  • Experience in cell culture and gene editing (desirable) in mammalian cells.
  • Experience performing and/or analysing proteomic experiments.
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry is desirable.
  • Highly developed communication skills, attention to detail and commitment to high quality.
