Contract type: Both permanent and fixed term for 1 year.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational class teacher to join our dedicated team here at Beaufort Special School. If you are looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of SEND pupils we are the school for you We currently have 96 pupils on roll who have SEND that include, severe learning difficulties, ASD and profound and multiple learning difficulties.

Beaufort School is on a journey of change and growth. In June 2023 the school was inspected and was put into special measures. There have been many changes to the school since then but there is still work to be done. Ofsted has completed it's first monitoring visit of the school ( March 2024) and the feedback was positive. We are making progress. Finding the right people to help us on our journey is crucial. So if you are enthusiastic, motivated and innovative we would like you to come and work with us and be part of the Beaufort team.

The staff at Beaufort are passionate about teaching children who need a bespoke, individualised curriculum to support their communicative, social, physical or emotional difficulties. We are continuing to build a team of expert staff who have a deep understanding of the needs of the pupils. You will find that every member of staff plays their part in supporting the pupils to achieve their best. We work as a team to deliver our vision 'working together to achieve success for all'. So far we have implemented a new curriculum, a whole school assessment system and behaviour/ communication initiatives which better suit our learners.

The leadership team are supportive and innovative and are able to offer in-house professional development alongside wider CPD opportunities. We are fortunate to have expert advice from outside agencies such as OT, SALT and BEP who support within our classrooms, providing strategies and ideas that can be used to develop your own teaching skills and the learning opportunities for the pupils. We are also in the unique position of being co-located with a mainstream school. This provides the chance to share facilities and promote good inclusive practice across both schools. Our classes are small and well staffed and we are fortunate to have facilities such as a hydrotherapy pool, two soft play rooms and a newly refurbished sensory room.

We are looking for a teacher who is committed to teaching SEN pupils. Someone who is resilient enough to support the continued changes the school needs to become 'good' and help Beaufort to be outstanding in the future. This is a joyful and rewarding job where you can really make a difference. If you are passionate, creative and skilled in teaching lessons that excite, stimulate and develop lifelong learning opportunities we would like to hear from you.

As a school in special measures we are unable to employ ECTs but we welcome applications from teachers who have early years/ primary school SEND/ special school experience.

Successful applicants will:

  • have previous experience and skills gained by working with SEND children in early years/ primary or special needs settings
  • be flexible and committed to use their skills to meet the needs of the range of pupils in the school
  • have a willingness to learn more and pass on your knowledge to others
  • be an enthusiastic, hardworking professional who can motivate and inspire children
  • be punctual, reliable and focused
  • have high expectations of themselves and others and be committed to raising standards in teaching and learning
  • demonstrate drive, be open to learning new skills and be committed to personal development
  • be an excellent team player and role model and be able to work collaboratively with all school staff
  • display a 'can do' attitude and bring positivity to the school and team
  • have a commitment to safeguarding our pupils and staff
  • have good communication skills in order to be able to effectively communicate with pupils, parents, families and other professionals

Informal visits to the school are highly recommended. Please phone the school office to arrange a suitable day and time.

If you wish to apply for the role, please visit our website and complete the online application form.

Please ensure that your application contains clear contact details for referees and that you can provide evidence of your qualifications.

Handwritten application forms and CVS will not be accepted.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to all necessary pre-employment checks, including: enhanced DBS; Prohibition check; Childcare Disqualification (where applicable); qualifications (where applicable); medical fitness; identity and right to work.

All applicants will be required to provide two suitable references.

An online search will also be carried out as part of due diligence on all short-listed candidates.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. Which means that when applying for certain jobs and activities certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected', so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account.
