Twickenham, United Kingdom St Catherine's School Full time

St Catherine's is a school very proud of its friendly atmosphere, excellent pastoral care and strong academic reputation. Our School Mission captures the spirit of our happy, confident and inclusive community.

We seek an experienced, well-qualified and enthusiastic full- or part-time Geography teacher. The successful candidate will build on existing strengths and have the skills to ensure an excellent curriculum and teaching and learning.

Geography is studied by all pupils to Year 9 (KS3). An engaging and challenging curriculum is taught, introducing pupils to key geographical concepts in both Human and Physical Geography through the study of places, processes and issues. The Key Stage Three course includes the study of environmental issues, demographics and natural hazards and investigates countries from the UK to Japan and Brazil.

GCSE pupils study the AQA Geography syllabus. The subject is a popular option, and the department is proud of its excellent exam results. Currently, we cover Natural Hazards, Living World and Physical Landscapes (Rivers and Coasts) in Paper 1, while in Paper 2, the pupils study the Changing Economic World, Challenge of Resource Management (food option) and Urban Issues (Lagos and London).

At A Level, pupils also follow the AQA syllabus. Geography continues to excel with good uptake at this level, with a number of students continuing to study Geography at degree level. The A Level course includes Changing Places, Global Systems and Urban Challenge, and in Physical Geography, we look again at Natural Hazards as well as Coasts and the Water and Carbon Cycle. Public exam results are very strong, and Geography is a popular A Level subject.

The School values breadth of teaching experience and seeks applications from teachers who could also teach another humanities or social science subject (e.g. Politics, History or Sociology). Applicants who are willing to take on a new humanities specialism in order to fulfil this role would receive support and training.

The School is interested in applicants who are ambitious about pupil progress and committed to creating a dynamic, rich and broad curriculum. Initiatives to strengthen the exciting extension and enrichment programme will be valued, as will a well-judged and knowledgeable focus on the learning needs of individual pupils.

If you feel you have the experience, enthusiasm and commitment we are looking for, then we would be delighted to receive an application from you.

Please download the supporting information and return your application form to:

Closing date: 9am on Monday 29 April 2024.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, so early application is recommended, and the school reserves the right to appoint prior to the closing date.

Interview date: From Wednesday 1 May 2024.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Appointment will be subject to a number of safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check as part of Keeping Children Safe in Education, and once in post, receive further training and updates.
