Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom University of Liverpool Full time

The Liverpool School of the Arts Doctoral Award (LADA) provides assistance with fees and maintenance for full-time study, renewable each year for up to 3 years, based on satisfactory progress.

Applicants must have a proven track record of academic excellence, and already show the potential to be outstanding academic researchers. Eligibility for the award is dependent on having been accepted onto a PhD programme offered by Departments in the University of Liverpool School of the Arts by the closing date, with a programme start date of October 2024. Applications to the PhD programme should be submitted by 3rd April 2024 at the very latest; applicants are encouraged to contact potential supervisors beforehand. PhD holders or candidates currently registered on PhD programmes offered by other Universities are not eligible to apply. For further information regarding our PhD programmes, see:

LADA comes with an expected commitment of up to 150 hours per year of teaching or research assistance work, and holders are to take a full role in their department(s) and the School more broadly, including attending staff meetings as required, participating in research activities, and undertaking training as necessary. LADA holders will gain a broad range of skills and experience for a successful academic or professional career and are expected to demonstrate their commitment to the values, standards, and practices of the School. LADA holders must be based at Liverpool. They will be provided with a departmental and an overall School of the Arts mentor to guide their professional development and will also benefit from a broad range of training opportunities available at the University of Liverpool.

This 3-year award cannot be held in conjunction with any other external or internal funding. LADA Funding will not be extended beyond 36 months. Shortlisted applicants should expect to be called for interview as part of the application process. Interviews will take place via Zoom on 16th July 2024.

The School of the Arts recognises that women and ethnic minority communities are currently under-represented on its doctoral programmes and aims to broaden the perspectives and skills represented within its five departments. As part of our initiatives to achieve this aim, we strongly encourage women, Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority applicants. The School actively engages with the University's commitment to diversity and equality, holding a Bronze Athena Swan award and supporting activity under Advance HE's Race Equality Charter.
