Roslin Primary School is a twelve classroom, non-denominational, co-educational school situated within the village of Roslin, Midlothian. The current school building opened in April 2018 and provides very good indoor and outdoor learning environments. School facilities include a gym/assembly area, an expressive arts room, library, additional support needs base, and a number of small tutorial rooms. The school currently has twelve classes for P1 to P7 pupils with a roll of around 300 pupils, and an ELC setting with spaces for 80 pupils aged 3-5 receiving 1140 hours of ELC over a session.

The school works closely with Beeslack Community High School and the other feeder primaries, to promote social and educational inclusion and to provide a supportive and healthy environment for pupils and staff. As Beeslack Learning Community schools work together with a range of partners to improve the outcomes of all of learners and their families. Partners include Children's Services, Women's Aid and play therapy. Within the school community the school has a close working relationship with Rosslyn Chapel and pupils of all ages are involved with this culminating in P7 pupils acting as Chapel tour guides. The school also makes extensive use of Roslin Glen as part of their curricular offer.

Our school catchment area has seen extensive new housing constructed in recent years and a key priority in the school is to continue to build effective community links.

We aim to provide a warm and caring learning environment where pupils, parents and members of the community feel welcome and where a positive partnership between our school and the wider community can flourish.

If you are successful, our offer of employment will be conditional on satisfactory completion of pre-employment requirements, such as medical screening, two written references, one which must be from your most recent/current employer, verification of your original qualifications and your eligibility to work in the United Kingdom. Registration with the General Teaching Council and a satisfactory PVG check for Regulated Work with Children will also be essential.

Regulated Work with Children

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

Successful candidates will require a PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you. The fee for a Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59. You will be required to re-pay this amount to the Council by salary deduction over 6 consecutive pay periods. The fee for a PVG Scheme Record Update is £18. You will be required to re-pay this amount to the Council by salary deduction over 2 consecutive pay periods. If your employment concludes before the amount is re-paid in full, the outstanding balance will be deducted from your final salary. If you are an existing employee the Council will pay the cost of the Application Fee.
