We are seeking a Senior Lawyer to join the Banking Products Legal team in Business & Commercial Banking and Corporate & Institutional Banking Legal.

Our new team member will be someone who delivers influential insight, engages proactively with senior stakeholders and the Legal & Secretariat Community and operates as a subject matter specialist. The role will also include delegated line management responsibilities.

Banking Products Legal

We are a collaborative, innovative and constantly developing team and we play a critical role in supporting the Bank's strategy. This role focuses on legal support for a variety of trade finance solutions to a wide range of customers. We work very closely with colleagues in Product, Coverage, our Platform teams and Delivery, plus other functional support areas.

The products and services we support include:

Bank guarantees and letters of credit;Trade lending (including bilateral and syndicated loans, borrowing base facilities and export credit agency-backed facilities);Documentary collections; avalising and discounting trade instruments;Supply chain finance;Risk participations and other distribution structures. As well as providing transactional support, our team provides legal advice for product development and innovation; legal and regulatory change projects; rectifications; industry change initiatives; end to end customer journeys and the management of legal risk. This is a fascinating time to be working in trade finance, with the recent enactment of the Electronic Trade Documents Act 2023, and you will play a crucial part in supporting the Bank on its digitisation strategy. You will be expected and encouraged to think strategically about the operation of the team and how we use and deliver legal services including exploring legal tech solutions, our operating model and resource utilisation. In this role you will ...Operate as a specialist legal adviser in relation to Trade matters;Assist with product development and innovation, including advice on terms and conditions for new and existing Trade products and services;Provide transactional support to the Trade business, including structuring advice, customer negotiations, tailored documentation and review of legal opinions;Support various business teams (including Product, Risk, Sales and Operations) on ad hoc legal matters, including cross border queries and day to day legal issues;Support change projects, and assist with rectifications;Proactively identify, report and call out legal and governance risks and recommend solutions as required;Stay on top of industry developments and relevant legal updates;Build and maintain a strong stakeholder network to ensure there is a good understanding of business strategy and pipeline and use that knowledge to help prioritise team activity;Manage use of panel law firms to build and maintain positive relationships with external lawyers;Help run the team by monitoring our service delivery, finding opportunities to improve the way we work and training colleagues.Seeking a positive and versatile individual who can....Build strong collaborative relationships across Legal & Secretariat and our business to support delivery of strategy;Be confident in using your experience and insights to influence, inform and challenge business stakeholders;Help identify, mitigate and control legal risk weakness;Handle your own workload priorities and support more junior colleagues to do the same;Stay on top of and share regulatory, industry and legal change;Demonstrate dedication to self-development and the development of colleagues;Bring passion and curiosity to the role.Skills/backgroundQualified as a solicitor in the UK (or equivalent qualification) ideally with experience of trade finance; transaction banking services; general transactional lending;Experience in developing and coaching others;People orientated.
