The role

The School of Geographical Sciences is seeking to appoint a one-year fixed-term Pathway 3 (Education and Scholarship-focused) Lecturer in the area of Cultural-Historical Geographies. This post arises from and is funded through the award of a Leverhulme Fellowship to a member of academic staff for the 24-25 academic year.

What will you be doing?

The key specific teaching responsibilities for this post will be to deliver:

  • 100% of the Year 2 undergraduate unit Philosophy, Social Theory, and Geography, as unit convenor.
  • 30% of the postgraduate unit Theorizing Society and Space.
  • A set of 4 Dissertation workshops for Year 3 undergraduates.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and marking undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, delivering personal tutorials for undergraduate or postgraduate students, and carrying out moderation and plagiarism checking duties. The expectation is that the successful candidate will take part in one undergraduate fieldtrip. Finally, the successful candidate may be asked to carry out cover for other minor teaching activities, as appropriate.

You should apply if

You have completed, or are nearing completion of, a PhD in a relevant subject-area.

You have recent experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching, for example tutorials, seminars, workshops, lectures, fieldtrips, project supervision.

You have the subject-knowledge and experience to prepare high-quality teaching materials on contemporary conceptual debates and issues in cultural geographies.
