JOB OVERVIEW

The Manager, IT position is responsible for the successful delivery of the IT function across our European business including the Service Desk, Desktop, Infrastructure, Telecoms, Security, Procurement and 3rd party service and support providers.


The position leads an inhouse team of 4, supporting two sites (Chessington office and Swindon distribution centre), company IT users across 15 countries and works closely with the global IT team. The role is pivotal in the provision, deployment and management of technology solutions deployed at these sites.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the IT Service Desk and Desktop Support functions to meet current and future business and user needs

  • Manage issues reported by email, telephone and in-person, utilizing Jira platform for tracking and escalation purposes
  • Collaborate with global IT peers and external suppliers on incidents, projects and tasks
  • Lead communications to business on behalf of IT Dept.
  • Lead weekly team meeting ensuring Service Desk standards and issue ownership are understood and maintained
  • Manage local hardware procurement (HP, Lenovo, Apple desktops, HP & Zebra print, Zebra/Motorola RF wearables, Apple iPhones), supplier relationships and maintain asset tracking resources

Infrastructure

  • Liaise with international business units in support of, and new projects within, a Cisco / FortiGate / MPLS-connected network
  • Manage internal Wi-Fi and internet connectivity at both UK sites, engaging company or service provider support where necessary
  • Deploy, manage and support on-premise Windows and Linux servers within a Nutanix / VMware environment, addressing performance issues in a timely manner
  • Ensure data backups, via HYCU & Veritas, are completed in accordance with company SOPs

Telephony

  • Administer and support Cisco Webex telephony solution for all users and contact centre agents, engaging 3rd party providers as necessary
  • Manage mobile telephony needs of UK business including hardware procurement and contract management

IT Security

  • Work collaboratively with Global IT Security, HR team and all business users to maintain security of company network, endpoints and data

Project Management

  • Create project plans and manage projects initiated locally and via other business units

Financial Management

  • Manage departmental budget and capex planning, providing best-cost solutions and reliable forecasts

Team Leadership

  • Experienced, hands-on IT leader with a strong record of service delivery and customer satisfaction
  • Recruit, train, inspire, motivate and mentor staff members across both UK sites, creating the optimum environment to meet business objectives
  • Promote multi-skilling and knowledge transfer and create a positive, productive work environment that encourages individual contributions
  • Conduct effective formal staff appraisals annually, meeting set deadlines
  • Conduct quarterly KPI reviews giving constructive feedback. Ensure regular informal performance feedback is given to employees and coach / counsel as needed
  • Identify training needs and design development plans. Ensure new starters have an effective induction and training plan
  • Staff resource planning to ensure priorities and objectives are met e.g. on-site IT support at Swindon distribution centre during staff holiday or absence


TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Broad technical skillset encompassing service delivery tools e.g. Jira (or similar), Active Directory, Operating systems - Windows 10/11/Server (to 2022), Mac OS, Apple iOS, VMware, network storage, PC/Mac, Outlook/Exchange, Office 365 including SharePoint, Cisco UCaaS including Contact Centre (or similar), networking, TCP/IP, LAN / WLAN / WAN
  • Good commercial understanding of sales and manufacturing environments
  • A natural communicator who can relay clear and accurate information both verbally and in writing across an international business
  • An effective multi-tasker and time manager, able to work at pace when required, switching between roles to meet changing priorities and a variable workload
  • Problem solving comes naturally
  • A strong networker who builds positive working relationships with colleagues and key external contacts


EDUCATION/TECHNICALSKILLS

  • University degree and 5 years’ relevant management experience
  • Relevant IT certifications: Microsoft, ITIL


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed in a designated professional office workstation and environment.
  • Extensive use of office equipment to include computer, monitor, and other business related machines and software.
  • Full driving license / car as some travel to Swindon site required
  • Some heavy lifting of computer equipment
