Senior Laboratory Technician - R&D

Mon-Fri, 36 hours per week


Up to £20 per hour


Are you seeking a temporary assignment for up to 6 months? Are you able to contribute effectively to a team of busy Scientists working at a Research Centre close to Oxford?


Core role requirements include but are not limited to:


  • Supporting a multidisciplinary team of research Scientists with a range of laboratory duties within the Physical Sciences research centre.
  • Duties will include: Calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment, arranging for engineers to attend any failures.
  • Health and safety matters including risk assessments, approving COSHH forms and storing electronically, supporting Research staff with locating relevant H&S information.
  • Coordinating the movement of lab equipment from one lab to another within the wider facility.
  • Movement and storage of chemicals, under correct hazardous chemical handling conditions.
  • Liaison with site Estates staff to organise and carry out the planning and execution of statutory inspections of equipment and facilities.


Your background and skills:


  • Educated to BSc or equivalent in a Physical Science, ideally Chemistry or related.
  • Capable and well-versed in use of techniques such as FTIR, Mass Spectrometry, furnace, glove boxes and pressured gas systems, liquid nitrogen dispensing equipment.
  • Familiarity with statutory inspection of pressure, LEV and lifting equipment.
  • Proven experience in maintaining a high standard of H&S procedures in a laboratory environment.
  • Able to troubleshoot a range of laboratory equipment.
