The Opportunity

We are looking to recruit an experienced commercial Legal Counsel to join our UK and Ireland legal team in Weybridge. You will be an integral part of LG Electronics’ operations, both in terms of existing products and services, and new growth areas.


This role will mainly support the smart TV platform service division of the Home Electronics Business unit. The role will involve exposure to all members of the business, primarily, senior management, so a can-do attitude and strong people skills are critical, as well as strong commercial acumen.


The role will encompass a wide variety of commercial issues and transactions, varying greatly in nature, complexity and value.




Roles and responsibilities:

  • To be aware of market trends and stay up to date on changes in the media and consumer products sector
  • To maintain a good understanding of emerging business models
  • To ensure that regulatory requirements are adhered to, in particular relating to consumer products and licencing
  • Drafting, negotiating and advising on general commercial contracts including content licensing and partnership, technology licensing, advertising, and distribution agreements applicable to UK and Europe
  • Compliance and related administration (including delivering training and compliance updates with use of the internal compliance portal)
  • Data protection (including EU and UK GDPR, PECR and e-privacy, dealing with data subject requests, record keeping as required and negotiating and concluding data processing agreements)
  • New laws/regulations that can impact aspects of the business (the candidate will have exposure to trade and/or government bodies, where required)
  • Promotion and the use of LG’s contract management system together with other systems as required




Skills, Education & Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor - England and Wales
  • 3 to 5 years’ PQE (preferable within an international law firm or in house), however any candidates with a demonstrable ability to fill the role will be considered
  • Commercial law experience and experience working in the IT, media, and/or content entertainment industry is essential
  • Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing
  • An interest in and knowledge of technology
  • In depth knowledge of commercial contracts and media law
  • Ability to balance legal risks with commercial needs
  • A strong negotiator
  • Able to multitask with rapidly changing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Commercial “client first” mentality
