Description of role:

Yourgene Health, part of the Novacyt Group, are recruiting for a Scientist I (1-2 years industry experience) within our PCR Diagnostics Team based at Manchester Science Park. The Scientist I will work alongside the PCR Team Leader and the PCR team to lead the tactical delivery and development of PCR based in vitro diagnostic products and services.


Overall responsibility:

The Scientist I will work with the team members to ensure work is planned, executed, analysed and documented to the highest standard. In addition, the Scientist I will design and develop in vitro PCR diagnostic products/services for use in a range of applications to high quality and in a timely fashion. The scope will include PCR products developed in line with ISO 13485 and IVDR regulations.


Key areas of responsibility:

  • Perform laboratory based technology development using molecular biology techniques including PCR and qPCR
  • Work collaboratively with others in the team, troubleshooting issues and suggesting next steps to resolve these whilst maintaining an innovative spirit
  • Analyse experimental results, providing detailed conclusions
  • Effective management of required documentation in accordance with company Quality Management System and ISO 13485 regulations
  • Participate in activities requiring cross functional collaboration
  • Updates to laboratory SOPs as directed by supervisor(s)
  • Data generation, ensuring integrity and organized data management
  • Contribute to troubleshooting activities when technical issues arise
  • Performance of laboratory work to a high standard with very good attention to detail, following laboratory SOPs
  • Ensure own work meets quality requirements; including compliance to SOPs, documentation using electronic lab books, study plans, study reports and integrity of data
  • General lab maintenance and upkeep including maintenance of equipment, stock control and goods receipt within the Quality Management Systems
  • Laboratory cleaning


Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

  • A degree in a life science such as molecular biology, biochemistry or genetics
  • Typically 1-2 years+ of relevant diagnostic development experience
  • Preferably hands on experience and a basic understanding of laboratory techniques, especially those used in Molecular Biology. Experience in any of the following areas of Molecular Biology is desirable: PCR, qPCR, dPCR or isothermal PCR, DNA/RNA Extraction.
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly during training and then perform tasks independently
  • Enthusiasm, drive, thoroughness, diligence and a willingness to take personal responsibility to ensure that projects are successful
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office suite
