We are seeking an experienced geology / geomaterials scientist to join our Geomaterials Department. The role would be based in our London laboratories and will may include occasional site work in London, the UK and occasionally overseas.
The Role
The successful applicant will be working with a well-qualified team with a wide range of geological, chemical, materials science and engineering expertise and experience, to assess and advise on a wide range of materials-related issues. We work with high profile projects and clients which are many and varied.
Responsibilities:
- Microscopical analysis of both natural and man-made materials.
- Investigating and testing construction materials, both natural, such as rock, stone, slate and aggregate; and man-made, such as concrete, render, plaster and mortar.
- Assisting with on-site testing and investigations.
- Laboratory testing to ensure that materials comply with the relevant specifications.
- Client liaison and project management
- Collating and analysing test data, preparing test reports.
- Mineralogical and elemental analysis using SEM and XRD
Desired experience:
The successful candidate will have 5 or more years of experience, should ideally be a Chartered Geologist and will be experienced in writing technical reports. We would expect the person to have a willingness to learn new skills and techniques within the testing and consultancy side of the business. The post will require both analytical and practical technical skills and an ability to initiate and develop close working relationships with colleagues and clients. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a career in often challenging and critical investigations in construction.
Person specification:
- Prior work experience (ideally >5 years in a similar industry)
- A good degree in Geology or Materials Science (with knowledge of construction materials)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Dynamic work ethic to learn and develop new skills
- Work professionally as part of a team
- Good IT skills
- Full UK or EU driving licence.
