Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Helensburgh, is currently looking to recruit a LGV Mechanic for an approximate 6 week contract on a rate of £15.95/hour PAYE.


Responsibilities:


- Inspect vehicles to MOT standard applying the guidance and specifications detailed in VOSA/DSA and manufacturers manuals. Complete the relevant inspection and quality documentation.

- Service vehicles and plant to manufacturer’s specifications using relevant publications as required and completing associated documentation.

- Diagnose and rectify faults with all vehicle systems and record work done on job cards and inspection documentation as per VOSA/DSA and local requirements

- Partake in flexible working patterns as required.

- Remove and refit components and adjust to specification as required.

- Repair parts using welding and fitting skills.

- Carry out vehicle maintenance and repair quality checks and inspection regimes, and complete associated documentation, as required by the organisation’s Quality Systems.

- All employees must follow the organisation’s health and safety policies, standards, systems and procedures and must follow any additional health and safety instructions required by their line management. Employees who manage staff (and/or control workers from outside bodies) must ensure that they comply with the organisation’s health and safety at work procedures and ensure that all workplace risks are assessed, suitable control measures are put in place and that these are communicated to the workforce in a way they understand.

- Maintaining minimum standards of Health & Safety, COSHH, professional engineering standards, discipline and quality standards within the workshop.

- Assist in maintaining a clean and tidy working environment

- Operate all workshop tools and equipment in a safe manner.

- Comply fully with all current Health & Safety guidance, Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work procedures and instructions, PUWER, LOLER and COSHH regulations and instructions and all relevant legal requirements.

- Undertake other duties appropriate to this job and grade, and as required by the line manager and ensure appropriate outcomes are achieved.

- Drive vehicles for the purposes of diagnosis and testing and also for collection and delivery from/to other locations as required

- Work as directed in the workshop and at any other location as required

- Be available for callout on a rota basis throughout the year. This will be mainly during the winter months but could also be during the summer and public holiday periods

- Undertake professional skills training and development as required. Assist with professional skills training and development of Fleet Staff, including Apprentice training and mentoring, and individual staff professional skills training and development.

- Undertake any other reasonable duties to achieve Departmental and/or organisation objectives. The postholder may be required to perform duties, appropriate to the post, other than those given in the job specification. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed.

- Undertake chargehand responsibilities if required.

Essential Skills:


- Level 1 or 2 City& Guilds, or equivalent.

- Motor Vehicle Repair qualification

- Time served motor vehicle mechanic

- Driving Licence, to include categories B, B+E, C1, C1+E, C

- Experience of working in a heavy vehicle /plant environment including inspection, servicing and repair of light and heavy commercial vehicles.

- Able to inspect, diagnose, service and repair all types of vehicles and plant

- The jobholder will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Argyll and Bute and beyond to meet the operational requirements of the Service.


Desirable Skills:

- Level 3 City & Guilds

- Additional qualifications in a vehicle related field.

- Vehicle diagnostic experience

- Supervisory experience within a workshop environment.

- Construction plant repair

- General welding experience

- Experience in hydraulic and electrical fault diagnosis and repair.

- Working knowledge of computerised systems.
