About Us

At Matta we are building AI copilots for advanced manufacturing. The latest manufacturing processes such as 3D printing and robotics are really challenging to use, with enterprises suffering from high scrap rates, excessive downtime, and unrealised opportunities. We create state-of-the-art AI co-pilots for manufacturing that mirror and even surpass the best human operators at scale. These copilots understand how parts are made, automate machines, and communicate across the factory. The outcome: improved part quality, heightened yield, and new design and manufacturing possibilities.


Our mission is to ultimately replace the entire design-engineer-build workflow with AI (crazy ambitious). This will help enable a sustainable and exciting future with reduced waste and improved efficiency, whilst unlocking the unimaginable technologies and products of tomorrow.


Role Description

We are offering a full-time, on-site position for a Founding AI Engineer at our HQ in London to join us in building AI co-pilots to supercharge manufacturing. The Founding AI Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our automated data pipeline, backend infrastructure, and integration with our AI workflows that power our manufacturing software solution. Responsibilities will include AI integration, database management, API development, and ensuring scalability as we expand our user base, in addition to developing, training, and testing AI models. There will be opportunities to get involved with state-of-the-art deep learning research thanks to our partnership with the University of Cambridge and also UI / UX design and frontend development if desired.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficiency in PyTorch, Tensorflow, Jax, or equivalent.
  • Proven expertise in Python and backend frameworks for building RESTful services.
  • Experience with relational database design and management, for example with PostgreSQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and maintain REST API services.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services and architecture.
  • Experience with AWS S3 or equivalent cloud object storage solutions.
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, or similar containerisation and orchestration technologies.
  • Strong understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC), agile methodologies, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with version control systems, preferably Git.


Desirable Extras

  • Knowledge and understanding of machine learning methods for coordinating with the rest of the team.
  • Familiarity with, or desire to build skills in manufacturing processes like 3D printing, CNC machining, welding, etc.
  • Experience working in a startup environment and the flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing requirements.
  • Understanding of lower level languages such as C++.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.
