HEAD OF INVESTMENT REPORTING

Pear Talent is representing a FTSE listed Financial Services business who are looking for a senior Head of Investment Reporting. Working closely with the Group Treasurer and Group FC, you'll provide strategic leadership to the team managing the investment accounting and reporting for the group’s investments. The company is undertaking an ambitious growth phase which will rely on this person to lead effective development and delivery of investment accounting, reporting and asset valuation processes and controls. You’ll have a commercial understanding of the investment portfolio of financial assets and the appropriate financial accounting required. Thjs person will have a profile at an Exec/Board/Committee level, whilst also managing external 3rd party relationships.


Key accountabilities:

  • Lead the Investment Accounting and Reporting team producing the investment asset information for half/full year reporting, ensuring robust financial controls.
  • Liaise with external auditors and several other 3rd party senior stakeholders.
  • Provide and enhance the investment related commentary for financial and regulatory reporting disclosures
  • Act as an investment accounting subject matter expert, supporting a business-wide modernisation and development programme to treasury and investment operational systems.
  • Lead on investment accounting updates at committees and internal forums
  • Own the assessment of investment accounting implications of new asset classes and investment strategies
  • Write ad hoc accounting papers as required
  • Liaise with external auditors on investment and derivative related queries
  • Identify, propose, and implement improvements and/or efficiencies to work practices
  • Manage, mentor and develop a team x10, ensuring the team is motivated and performing to the highest standard
  • Actively challenge the status-quo of current processes and systems, exploring any potential improvements and ensuring that a robust control environment is in place
  • Continuous engagement with other functions such as the Treasury, Tax, Legal etc


Required experience:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent) with significant post-qualified experience gained in Financial Services (Insurance adv.)
  • Previous work experience in fixed income and derivative accounting at an insurer, bank and/or asset management firm
  • Strong knowledge of fixed income assets, derivatives and associated accounting rules under IFRS and Solvency II (adv.).
  • Experience in leading and managing a team; managing senior stakeholders; maintaining and enhancing controls and processes to meet best practice.
  • Strong numerical abilities and commercial acumen to perform relevant statistical analysis and calculations
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and advanced knowledge of financial controls
  • Financial and regulatory knowledge to ensure that investment assets and other financial reports are compliant with relevant regulations
  • Knowledge of Oracle General Ledger / FIS Quantum / Bloomberg highly desirable
  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship building
  • Strong business leadership, communication and people influencing skills
