Role profile - Group Chief Technology Officer

Reports to Chief Executive Officer


As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Jisc you will play a pivotal role in providing leadership on Jisc’s technological developments and ensuring our offer and products are fit for purpose, strategically aligned, secure and stimulate unprecedented levels of innovation for the benefit of the further and higher education and research. Leveraging your deep knowledge and experience in this field, you will lead our technology initiatives, ensuring they align with the unique challenges, opportunities and aspirations of the sector.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership and talent development: Demonstrate outstanding leadership to ensure high engagement levels and delivery of successful change management. Build and mentor a skilled technology team with expertise in the higher and further education and research sector, as well as commercial and collaborative mindset. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development, empowering team members to excel in their roles.
  2. Sector specific technology leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership in the development and implementation of technology solutions tailored to the needs of the higher and further education and research sector. Stay abreast of industry trends, challenges, and emerging technologies to drive innovation and excellence.
  3. Cybersecurity and compliance: Oversee the design and implementation of robust cybersecurity measures and compliance frameworks to protect sensitive data, intellectual property, organisational assets and our reputation. Ensure adherence to sector-specific regulations, standards, and best practice.
  4. Product development and research support: Lead the development of technology solutions that enhance teaching, learning, and research outcomes, fostering collaboration and innovation across academic and research communities. Provide technical expertise and support for research initiatives and projects.
  5. Infrastructure implementation and enhancement: Architect and manage scalable and resilient technology infrastructure, including the Janet network and data centres, to support the diverse needs of our academic and research communities. Optimize infrastructure resources to maximize efficiency and performance.
  6. Collaboration and partnerships: Forge strategic partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, technology vendors, and industry partners to leverage expertise, resources, and funding opportunities. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advance the Jisc strategy. Build consensus to drive alignment around technology priorities and investments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.


This position could be based at any of the Jisc office locations including London, Bristol and Manchester.
