A key focus of the Principal Consultant role developing strong and sustained working relationships with senior clients.Responsibilities:Principal Consultants are expected to meet the reasonable requirements of any project, but typical tasks and responsibilities include:Managing large projects, delivering on time and to budget.Developing strong and sustained working relationships with senior clients (Director and above), building confidence and trust.Understanding and interpreting government guidance and policy, providing clear advice and supporting senior clients to implement government policy on a local basis.Leading the development of HM Treasury Green Book business cases, public sector investment strategies and investment plans, either independently or as part of a wider team.Managing the implementation of public sector reform and transformation projects / programmes.Demonstrating well developed influencing skills and showing tact and judgement in guiding senior clients and partners.Providing final quality assurance on work carried out by other team members, providing constructive feedback and guidance.Leading the development of the approach/methodology/delivery plan content of large bids.Leading the process of identifying and brokering successful, productive working relationships with partners.Leading the development of major services and/or solutions.Originating new, pro-active business opportunities and selling services to new and existing clients.Providing effective line management to multiple, more junior members of the team; acting as a coach and mentor.Supporting the creation of thought leadership materials and presentations.Identifying new business opportunities to market and selling services to new and existing clients.Contributing to the wider success of the company e.g. through supporting our business planning process, the development of new offers/markets and working on our internal team culture development.Contributing to internal projects and activities.About youWe are looking for someone with a genuine passion for public services and a strong understanding of the major themes across public service reform, place leadership and economic regeneration, with the following skills, experience and attitudes:Demonstrable experience of writing Green Book compliant public sector business cases; proven ability to write and structure a 5-case model (5-10 years experience preferred).In-depth knowledge and practical application of the HM Treasury Green Book.The ability to produce a compelling written narrative across the 5-case model.The ability to develop and transpose complex data and information into business case documents.Experience of implementing government policy (e.g. Levelling Up Fund, UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Towns Fund, Long Term Plan for Towns / Plans for Neighbourhoods etc.).Demonstrable interest in local public service reform and the future of collaboration between organisations and services.
