Indirect Tax Manager


A leading commodities firm is seeking a proactive Indirect Tax Specialist to join their London team, supporting VAT compliance, advisory, and process improvement initiatives. This role involves significant collaboration across departments, with a strong emphasis on technology and process automation. Ideal for a tax professional with an accounting firm background and an interest in both compliance and advisory, this opportunity offers hands-on experience in an evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee VAT compliance, including VAT return preparation and submission, registrations, and oversight.
  • Drive process improvements in VAT reporting and compliance, leveraging technology and automation.
  • Support advisory functions on VAT matters, especially around intra-EU transactions and the excisable goods industry.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable and Settlements teams to train and implement best practices for VAT processes.
  • Engage in projects with cross-functional teams, including supporting on ROW (Rest of World) VAT issues, with some exposure to US-related queries.
  • Work closely with leadership to enhance reporting systems and ensure compliance during technology transitions, such as the new software rollout on Day 1.
  • Actively contribute to the indirect tax function’s growth within a collaborative, “flat” team structure.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience in VAT advisory (goods), preferably from a Big 4 or other large accounting firm.
  • Ability to manage complex VAT issues, with a focus on process improvement and automation.
  • Familiarity with excisable goods or commodities is advantageous, though not required.
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to switch between compliance and advisory tasks efficiently.
  • A collaborative approach, with a “geeky” interest in tax and a desire to work in a dynamic team environment.
