Private Clients Underwriter – Hybrid in London City


We’re on the hunt for a talented Private Clients Underwriter to join our growing team in the Hoxton Insurance Services part of our business. This role is based in our London City office with flexible hybrid working. You will play a key role in delivering our strategic underwriting goals, focusing on mid and high net worth home and travel insurance. You will underwrite new and renewal risks under a delegated binding authority and deliver strong financial returns for our insurer partners. Your primary responsibilities will be to deliver profitable growth and to develop the trading relationships with our panel of brokers.


Hoxton is a digital MGA with an established trading platform and A-Rated capacity from a global insurer. The underwriting of our business is done both digitally on our platform, and on an open market basis for more complex or larger exposures. You will be comfortable trading in both ways, and have a desire to develop skills and business strategies that take private client insurance into the digital age.


Hoxton insurance Services is part of Geo Underwriting Services Limited. As the UK Commercial MGA for Ardonagh Advisory and a Gold rated Investor in Customer insurance business, Geo specialise in Agriculture, Construction, Property, Liability, Marine and Protection lines, and is home to top brands such as Thames Underwriting, Rural and Bravo Networks Underwriting. So, what does the role of a Private Clients Underwriter here involve?


As a Private Client Underwriter you will provide a pivotal role driving underwriting results and setting the standard for trading with our panel of brokers. You will be comfortable underwriting risks on our digital platform, with relatively binary decision making, as well as on an open market basis for more complex exposures. You will develop relationships with both brokers and insurers, and be able to balance the unique demands of both. Your responsibilities include:


  • Underwrite and administer risks both digitally and open market, always acting within our delegated authority and underwriting guidelines.
  • Support junior team members and provide technical guidance.
  • Clearly demonstrate proactive, follow up of risks underwritten to maximize investment of time.
  • Collaborate with brokers to gather necessary and accurate information to provide risk evaluation.
  • Achieve personal financial targets and maximize contribution to business targets.
  • Achieve a high quality of underwriting as demonstrated through quality monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with all key stakeholders, including brokers, insurers and industry experts.
  • To clearly demonstrate strong trading, sales, and negotiation skills in the attainment of new and renewal business.
  • Provide expert underwriting guidance to support other members of the team.
  • Input into our underwriting and trading strategies to ensure Hoxton hits it’s targets for profitable growth.



What experience does a Private Clients Underwriter need?


  • Ideally CII qualified or working towards.
  • Proven underwriting experience in personal lines, with the ability to manage a panel of brokers and deliver against a strategic underwriting plan.
  • Experience handling mid-net worth risks, as well as traded mid/high net worth risks.
  • A working knowledge of legal and regulatory Insurance framework.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex data and make informed decisions.
  • IT Skills: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point.
