OBM is recruiting an Offshore Instrument Technician for a 1-year contract with an oil and gas operator in Barrow-in-Furness, on a 2 weeks on, 3 weeks off rotation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing offshore instrumentation systems, conducting inspections, calibrations, and troubleshooting to ensure safe and efficient operations. The technician will plan and prioritize maintenance, manage stock requisitions, supervise contractors, and comply with HSEQ standards.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Instrument Maintenance: Maintain safety instrumented systems to design standards, perform planned and unplanned maintenance, and recommend improvements to extend equipment life and reduce costs. Coordinate with Shift Supervisor and E&I Team Leader, advising on the need for external assistance.
  • Troubleshooting: Conduct urgent maintenance, seek technical support when needed, and perform root cause analysis on instrument failures, reporting findings and recommendations to prevent future issues.
  • Inspections and Calibration: Perform inspections, calibrations, and corrective actions in line with HSEQ policies, reporting anomalies to the Team Leader and OIM. Support vendor audits as required.
  • Work Planning: Prioritize and plan maintenance activities during shifts, advising on efficient use of vendor time and downtime.
  • Stock Requisition: Identify and requisition necessary parts, ensuring materials are safely and efficiently managed.
  • Administration: Manage work orders and maintenance records in MMS, ensuring accurate information is available and compliant with HSEQ standards. Ensure proper handover to the next shift.
  • Contractor Supervision: Oversee contractors, ensuring work quality meets industry and company standards. Report on performance to E&I Team Leader.
  • Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ): Adhere to HSEQ procedures, participate in safety briefings, and address unsafe conditions. Contribute to a safe work environment and participate in emergency response roles.
  • Safety Culture: Promote an Incident-Free Workplace by adhering to HSES standards, including Spirit Energy's CMAPP and HSES Policy.
  • Emergency Response: Perform and maintain competencies for assigned emergency response duties.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • BTECH or ONC in an engineering subject as a minimum is essential to provide the underpinning knowledge in dealing with the technical issues that arise.
  • Current valid Offshore Survival, Offshore Medical and MIST
