The Company
OXBO are working with one of the UK's leading Solar & BESS Developers to help them add a Land Acquisition Specialist/Rural Surveyor to their team. The purpose of this role will be Business Development with the aim of acquiring new land to develop utility scale solar farms on.
This is a remote role for a candidate based in the Midlands/North England with frequent travel to site required. You will be a personable individual comfortable with cold calling/sales and with a track record of maintaining relationships with farmers and landowners.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with farmers and landowners, understanding their needs and concerns.
- Conduct cold calls and outreach to potential landowners to identify opportunities for solar and battery project development.
- Persuasively present the benefits of leasing land for solar and battery energy development to landowners.
- Negotiate land leases, ensuring a win-win outcome for both parties.
- Conduct site assessments and due diligence, considering environmental and zoning factors.
- Prepare initial proposals for solar or battery projects, including basic site assessments and feasibility studies.
- Coordinate with internal teams, including project development, engineering, and finance, to ensure seamless land acquisition.
- Manage documentation and maintain detailed records of all land information.
- Work with legal teams to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Attend community meetings and public hearings as needed to support land acquisition efforts.
- Represent the company at external events.
Requirements
- Proven experience in sales, land acquisition, real estate, or farming.
- Knowledge of farming practices and the agricultural industry.
- Strong cold calling and sales skills, with a persuasive and confident communication style.
- Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Experience with reviewing and understanding mapping or GIS information.
- Ability to understand and interpret contracts and legal documents.
- Familiarity with planning constraints, including but not limited to flood areas, AONB, public rights of way, environmental regulations, and land use planning.
- Technical competence to prepare initial proposals for solar or battery projects.
- A fast learner and genuinely keen to develop a career within Renewable Energy.
- Highly self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Excellent IT skills, including CRM tool use, workflow process and expenses software.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive a company vehicle to target areas.
- Able to work in the UK on a long-term basis without sponsorship.
