SPG Resourcing are currently hiring for two permanent Systems Engineers that have strong experience in Python and Kubernetes. We have offices based in Leeds and Newcastle, but the majority of this role can be worked remotely in the UK.


Role: DevOps Engineer / Distributed Systems Engineer


Start date: start of September 2024


Salary: up to £55,000


Interview date: W/C 12th August 2024


Job Description:


  • Design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines to streamline the software development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
  • Utilize Kubernetes for container orchestration, including deploying, managing, and scaling containerized applications - specific experience of python interacting with k8s APIs would be ideal
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in Python for automation tasks, scripts, and backend services.
  • Collaborate with development, QA, and operations teams to ensure smooth integration and deployment of applications.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability of infrastructure.
  • Implement security best practices in all aspects of the DevOps workflow.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in DevOps, Kubernetes, and Python development.
  • Document processes, configurations, and procedures for internal use and knowledge sharing.


Required Skills and Qualifications:


  • Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, Developer, or similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in Python programming and scripting.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including setting up clusters, managing deployments, and scaling applications.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI, or similar.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
  • Solid understanding of containerization technologies (Docker).
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet)
  • Understanding of networking concepts, including DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or similar.
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and related technologies.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
