Network Migration Engineer

About Us :Location: Remote (UK-based) On-site work required only during key migration or cutover activitiesType: Contract or PermanentClearance: (Add if required)Travel: Occasional UK travel for migration weekends, physical DC work or high-risk cutover eventsRole Summary :We are seeking experienced Network Migration Engineers to design, build and execute the network transformations required for large-scale legacy-to-cloud migrations.You will support migrations from traditional data centre environments into AWS and Stromasys emulation platforms (CHARON), ensuring robust and secure hybrid connectivity throughout the process.This role is remote-first but requires hands-on support during cutovers, weekend migrations and controlled outage windows.Key Responsibilities :Network Design & Migration ExecutionDesign and implement AWS network landing zones, including VPC layouts, subnetting, routing, segmentation and network security controls.Build hybrid connectivity between on-premises data centres and AWS, covering:Site-to-Site VPNAWS Direct ConnectSD-WAN integrationsRouting and redistribution between environmentsSupport live production transitions, including route changes, failover, NAT adjustments, and traffic migration.Cutover & Change DeliveryParticipate in migration weekends, overnight cutovers and high-risk change windows.Execute network changes in accordance with formal runbooks and change-control processes.Own and maintain runbooks covering:Prerequisite checksImplementation stepsRollback plansValidation/testing proceduresTroubleshoot real-time issues across routing, firewalling, connectivity and cloud network layers.Collaboration Across TeamsWork closely with cloud engineers, architects, security analysts and platform teams to define end-to-end migration patterns.Interface with application teams to support dependencies, firewall rules, DNS changes and service routing outcomes.Stromasys Emulation NetworkingUnderstand or learn the networking behaviour of Stromasys CHARON emulated systems (SPARC/Power).Assist in mapping legacy network topologies into their emulated/cloud equivalents.Ensure traffic flow, latency, firewall rules and segmentation meet legacy application requirements.Experience Required :Core Network EngineeringStrong hands-on networking experience with enterprise vendors such as:Cisco (IOS/XE/NX-OS)Juniper (Junos)Palo Alto NetworksF5 / Citrix ADC (desirable)Deep understanding of routing (BGP, OSPF, static), switching, segmentation, VLANs, VRFs and ACLs.Cloud & Hybrid NetworkingProven experience designing and implementing AWS networking, including:VPCs, subnets, route tablesTransit GatewayIGWs, NGWs, VPC endpointsSecurity groups and NACLsStrong experience delivering hybrid connectivity (VPN, Direct Connect, routing integration).Migration & Cutover DeliveryExperience performing network changes as part of large-scale cloud migrations.Comfortable working during weekend cutovers, outage windows and high-pressure transitions.Proven ability to follow and create detailed network migration runbooks.Desirable :Understanding of Stromasys CHARON network requirements and patterns.Experience supporting legacy operating system migrations (AIX, Solaris, HP-UX etc.).Familiarity with multi-cloud or cross-cloud routing.Soft Skills & Delivery Attributes :Strong communication across cross-functional engineering, operations and architecture teams.Ability to operate calmly and accurately during high-risk change events.Excellent documentation skills.Analytical and methodical problem solver with strong attention to detail.Salary Banding £450–£550 per day / £65,000–£80,000 perm FTCInterview Question BankExplain how you design hybrid networking for AWS migrations.What is your approach to planning network cutovers?Describe how you’ve handled routing or segmentation challenges.
