Overview:
Our client, a global innovator in the specialty materials industry, is seeking a dedicated Production Team Lead to join their Production department on a permanent basis at their Scottish Borders Plant. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a team within a highly specialised manufacturing environment, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of production and manufacturing processes.
Commuting distance from Berwick Upon Tweed, Eyemouth, Duns and surrounding areas.
Role and Responsibilities:
As a Production Team Lead, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the production processes. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Work Area Maintenance: Ensure work areas are maintained according to 5S standards at all times.
* Machine Supervision: Oversee the operation of machines to ensure they are run safely and in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Performance Monitoring: Operate systems to monitor and control performance in critical areas such as safety, quality, environmental compliance, production volume, machine efficiencies, and utilisation.
* Problem Solving: Identify production process problems, troubleshoot causes, and develop effective solutions.
* Production Restart: Ensure that production is restarted safely and efficiently after breaks, grade changes, and other process changes, including tasks such as viscose production, clothing changes, rope changes, felt changes, and hygiene duties.
* Target Achievement: Work to meet targets for production volume, quality, efficiency, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), waste reduction, and cost control.
* Process Management: Plan and manage the efficient conversion of all products within the department.
* Maintenance Coordination: Liaise with the engineering department to ensure that maintenance requirements are organised and planned in a way that maximises operational efficiency.
* Quality Control: Implement and enforce quality control procedures to maintain high product standards.
* Continuous Improvement: Promote and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
* Water Usage: Monitor and manage water usage to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
* Performance Evaluations: Conduct performance evaluations for all staff directly reporting to you, providing constructive feedback and support for their development.
* Corrective Actions: Implement corrective actions resulting from customer complaints, customer audits, and both external and internal ISO audits.
* Site Responsibility: Oversee all site activities, particularly outside of regular working hours, ensuring smooth operations.
* Record Keeping: Maintain precise and accurate logs and generate reports for management review.
* HR Collaboration: Work closely with HR on employee relations matters, including Return to Work processes, time away from work, accident investigations, Occupational Health, absence review meetings, and disciplinary actions.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Degree in engineering or a related field such as material science, chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, non-woven, or textile technology.
* Technical expertise in papermaking, nonwovens, polymers, or fibres, with relevant industry experience being a plus.
* Fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a busy and dynamic production environment.
* Creativity and technical capability to generate innovative ideas and solve non-routine problems.
* Proven ability to lead teams and work collaboratively as part of a team.
