Job Summary
The Earthworks Operative is responsible for carrying out a range of earthworks activities on construction sites. This includes operating heavy machinery, such as excavators and bulldozers, performing manual labor, and adhering to safety and quality standards to ensure the successful completion of projects.
Key Responsibilities
Site Preparation:
Clear and prepare construction sites by removing obstacles, vegetation, and debris.
Grub and level ground to prepare for further construction activities.
Machinery Operation:
Operate earthmoving equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, graders, and compactors.
Conduct routine maintenance checks on machinery and report any issues.
Excavation and Grading:
Perform cutting and filling tasks to achieve desired ground levels.
Execute rough and fine grading to prepare the site for construction according to design specifications.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all health and safety regulations on-site.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and ensure a safe working environment.
Surveying and Measurement:
Assist with site surveying and setting out using GPS and laser levels.
Place stakes and markers to guide earthworks processes.
Compaction and Stabilization:
Compact soil to ensure stability and prevent settling.
Apply soil stabilization techniques when necessary.
Quality Control:
Ensure all earthworks meet the project's design specifications and standards.
Participate in inspections and make necessary adjustments.
Collaboration:
Work closely with site supervisors, engineers, and other construction personnel.
Communicate effectively to ensure smooth operations and address any issues promptly. Qualifications and Skills
Experience: Previous experience in earthworks or construction is essential.
Licenses: Valid CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) or NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) certification for operating machinery.
Skills:
Proficiency in operating earthmoving equipment.
Understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Basic knowledge of site surveying techniques.
Physical Requirements:
Good physical fitness to perform manual labor.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
