The Commodities trading desk is looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong level of intellectual curiosity to join their team in London as a senior trader covering Carbon and Power.

Your goal will be to further expand our business in the Carbon Compliance markets and develop our franchise in the Carbon voluntary market. In the Power space, you will also contribute to add more regions and clients in Europe and the UK to our offering.

Your daily tasks will be to structure, price, trade and manage positions on Carbon and Power contracts (Physical and financial) in order to exploit and develop the bank's core client franchise in a risk controlled, capital efficient and cost-effective manner.

Key activities and key competenciesnEffectively market make, manage risk and keep senior staff informed of current risk positions, be up to date with the rules and regulations of the Carbon and Power markets and exchanges.nWork with the Head of Commodity trading to implement the most optimal trading strategies on carbon and power assets.nInteract with OTC/listed brokers to make sure the best execution is always performed.nBuild and maintain strong relationship with Trading counterparties.nMonitor current market levels and competitor pricing, mark the trading books and make available such market data across the Commodity platform, reconcile and ensure accuracy of Risk and Profit & Loss figures on a daily basis.nKeep trading books within all required risk limits.nDevelop technical, market, product and technological expertise in a fashion consistent with the strategic aims of the business.nAct as subject matter expect on Carbon and Power within the bank and promote the franchise with all internal stakeholders.nCoordinate with Support units, specifically IT, in order to set up new instruments/tools in the various trading systems.nWork with the operations team to enable them to handle the settlement and delivery of financial and physical carbon and power contracts.nActively promote the Carbon and Power franchise with Sales teams. Provide accurate and timely prices on their requests and provide regular trade ideas and market comments.nAssist in the further automation and digitisation of the Carbon and Power business, coordinate projects, monitor performance against objectives.nTypical instruments traded include spot, futures, forwards, swaps both cash settled and physically settled.

Key Requirements (Work Experience/Formal Education)nExperience of at least 3 years in Carbon and Power trading is essential.nStrong understanding of the Emissions trading schemes in the EU and UK (EU ETS and UK ETS). Experience in the primary markets auctions is a plus.nSolid comprehension of the Carbon Voluntary market. Ability to conduct light due diligence on various carbon projects in order to assess their suitability and liaise with the Sustainability team to select projects.nSharp technical expertise in Energy derivatives contracts.nThe successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the various Energy supply and demand fundamentals in Europe.nRobust understanding of the key end-consumers and suppliers in Europe and the UK.nAbility to carry out execution of multiple Energy contracts in a tight frame in the most efficient, compliant and cost-effective way.nExcellent numerical and analytical skills.nSolid problem-solving abilities.nStrong commercial mindset and high communication skills.nHigh entrepreneurial attitude required to develop a business.nExcellent P&L track record.nThe successful candidate is likely to be educated to degree level in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Econometrics, or similar highly quantitative discipline.
