Vehicle Control Systems Engineer required for an innovative company leading the way in the development of powertrain solutions for electric vehicle applications. As a Vehicle Control Systems Engineer, you will be working on projects integrating a retrofit electric powertrain system into existing vehicle platforms. Specifically, you will be responsible for developing the electrical interface to the original vehicle systems, and associated software development. You will also be responsible for configuration and optimisation of the powertrain system software for the application. You will be working across the full life-cycle of each project: initial design, prototype testing and development, production and post-delivery support.

ResponsibilitiesnElectrical architecture design:nDesign of electrical interface between powertrain system and vehicle systemsnModification of powertrain system low-voltage and high-voltage architecture to suit application requirementsnSoftware design:nDevelopment of communications interface between powertrain system and vehicle systems, and associated powertrain system functionsnModification of powertrain system software to suit application requirementsnEnsuring the design satisfies relevant regulatory requirementsnSupport of vehicle build, and commissioning of the electric powertrain systemnConducting vehicle function and performance tests, and analysis of results

Required SkillsnDegree level qualification in an engineering disciplinenUse of Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow for embedded software developmentnUse of CAN (Controller Area Network), for communication between vehicle componentsnElectrical schematic designnKnowledge of operation of electric vehicle systems – Batteries, Motors & inverters, DC-DC converters, DC & AC (“on-board”) charging systemsnAnalysis of vehicle data to validate functional and performance requirementsnKnowledge of UN ECE Regulation No. 100

Desirable SkillsnUse of CAN analysis tools: Vector CANalyzer, Kvaser CANKing, Peak-Systems PCAN-ViewnUse of ECU calibration and programming toolsnDevelopment of ECU diagnostic functions (“on-board diagnostics”)nKnowledge of SAE J1939nKnowledge of operation of commercial vehicle brake, suspension and body systemsnApplication of functional safety management (e.g. ISO 26262)
