Research Associate in Applied Mathematics Job Type: Full-Time. Starting Salary: £49017 - £57472 per annum plus benefits To find out more about the job please click the ‘apply for job’ button to be taken to Imperial job site About the role Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London. The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust and will involve the computational modelling of cilia. The project will involve large-scale simulation on GPUs and interaction with experimental researchers as part of an interdisciplinary project. What you would be doing The successful candidate will work closely with Dr Eric Keaveny at Imperial College London and a group of experimental researchers participating in the Wellcome Trust Discovery Award "Unity and diversity of multiciliary function across scales." This position is well-suited for candidates with expertise in biofluid dynamics, large-scale computation, and GPU computing. What we are looking for The essential requirements for this post are as follows: Hold A PhD or equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or experience in applied mathematics or closely related fields. Clear evidence of outstanding promise and originality in research in fluid dynamics and computational mathematics Original results in fluid dynamics, or computational physics commensurate with career stage Experience with parallel and GPU computation A broad and strong background in numerical methods and fluid dynamics Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature Strong programming skills in C++, CUDA, Python, or similar languages Creative approach to problem-solving Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication Ability to carry out original research and to produce published research papers Ability to identify, develop and apply concepts, techniques and methods in new contexts Ability to organise own work independently Ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines Ability to keep accurate records of research results and activity High level analytical capability Willingness to work as part of a team and to be open-minded and cooperative Flexible attitude towards work Discipline and regard for confidentiality and security at all times Willingness to undertake any necessary training for the role Willingness to travel both within the United Kingdom and abroad to conduct research and attend conferences What we can offer you The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to continue science for humanity.
