Technical Director

Eden Scott is delighted to be recruiting a Technical Director for Novosound; an award-winning sensor technology business based in the Scottish Central Belt.

Novosound is an innovative company specializing in advanced ultrasound technology for industrial, medical, and wearable applications. Their groundbreaking technology and products are at the forefront of the industry, and they are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with ultrasound.

Operating a unique "sound wave to screen" approach, Novosound delivers comprehensive solutions to their clients that encompass everything from core thin film sensors (their unique manufacturing IP), instrumentation to digitise sound waves, AI/ML for analysis, and visual representation on screens for increased information.

This newly-created role offers a progression route into a CTO position, along with the chance to play an integral part in the growth of one of Scotland’s most prized scale-up technology businesses.

Reporting into the CEO, you’ll have the opportunity to further develop your leadership and project management capabilities, work with some exceptionally talented engineers and play a crucial role in the development of products that will impart positive change to society at large.

Novosound is keen to consider high-potential candidates at Engineering Manager or Lead level who have the ambition to progress their careers, along with more established Director-level candidates. They would also support relocation to Scotland for the right candidate from further afield.

What will you be doing?

The Technical Director will oversee the technical operations of Novosound, ensuring that all engineering and technical projects are completed to the highest standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in implementing new technologies, project management, and team leadership. This role requires a strategic thinker with the ability to innovate and drive technical excellence across all company projects, particularly in advancing their "sound wave to screen" approach. The responsibilities will be to:

Lead and manage the technical team, including engineers (electronic hardware, firmware and software), researchers, and technicians.nOversee the development and implementation of technical strategies and product roadmaps.nEnsure all technical projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.nCollaborate with the executive team to define technical priorities and align them with business goals.nMaintain an in-depth understanding of current and emerging technologies in the ultrasound field.nDrive innovation and continuous improvement in product development and engineering processes.nManage relationships with external partners, suppliers, and stakeholders.nEnsure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and quality assurance protocols.nProvide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.nPrepare and present technical reports and updates to the executive team and board of directors.

To thrive in the role, you will have:

A Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.nPrevious experience in sensor-based technologiesnExperience in a technical leadership rolenProven experience in managing and leading technical teams.nStrong project management skills with a track record of successfully delivering complex technical projects.nExperience with AI/ML for data analysis and digital signal processing.nExperience with instrumentation and the digitisation of sound waves.nExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.nStrong communication and interpersonal skills.nAbility to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.nDemonstrated ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement.nExperience with regulatory compliance and quality assurance in a technical environment.

It’d be nice if you had:

Knowledge of ultrasound technology and its applications.nKnowledge of emerging technologies and trendsnFamiliarity with software development and hardware integration.nExperience in a startup or fast-paced growth environment.nProven track record in taking products from concept to market.
