Trust Relationship Manager

Gloucester, United Kingdom Mencap Full time
Full-time or part-time job share considered. Please state preference in your Cover letter.
We are recruiting for a new Trust Relationship Manager to join our Trust Services Team and be based in the West England area. They are the main point of contact of a proportion of our active trusts, building a relationship with beneficiaries to find out about their lives, what is important to them and how they can best make use of their trust fund.
As the main point of contact for a number of our trusts the successful applicant will be the face of Mencap Trust Company (MTC) to many of our beneficiaries and their supporters. A key part of this is annual review meetings held in the beneficiary’s home or other care setting. These meetings often include the other important people in the beneficiary's life. The Trust Relationship Manager’s role in these review meetings involves asking questions about what is important to the beneficiary and what is going on in their life as well as delivering information and answering questions about the trust in accessible way.
There will be contact in between review visits too, and a key role of the Relationship Manager is to submit requests to the Trustee on behalf of the beneficiary's for consideration. The successful applicant must use their judgement and understanding of the beneficiary and their circumstances to help inform the Trustee’s decision on any requests made. A vital part of the role is to ensure beneficiaries and their supporters have reasonable expectations with regards to requests and distributions from the fund, and to support the trust services team with making distributions.
The successful applicant will have:
* significant experience of working and communicating with people who have a learning disability and/or Autism.
* a desire to learn new things & deliver a great service
* the ability to keep up-to-speed with the current world of learning disability and know about the challenges and realities people with learning disabilities and their families face.
* knowledge of benefits and entitlements beneficiaries may be eligible for.
* knowledge about the Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding and whistleblowing procedures.
* an ability to work on your own initiative and to contribute to team priorities.
* an ability to positively challenge and work well under pressure.
The role includes responsibility in recognising when situations and circumstances are not right and reporting these– this could be safeguarding concerns, self-neglect and hoarding, health concerns etc.
An advocacy background and knowledge of Trusts are highly desirable, but training will be available.
The Relationship Manager role is based from home, but with regular travel across the UK on average 2-3 days per week. Our beneficiaries live all over the UK and the successful applicant will be required to travel to the review meetings, so the use of a reliable car and a full UK driving licence is essential. Our main office is in central London and the successful applicant will be required to travel to London from time to time to take part in monthly team meetings and activities. All travel expenses are reimbursed.
It is essential that the successful applicant has good overall IT skills and be able to learn new systems and processes. They will be required to write reports, manage their own time to book, hold and report on review meetings and reliably meet deadlines and targets.
Mencap Trust Company will give the successful applicant opportunities to work with a range of people at MTC and the wider Mencap Network; opportunities to develop new ways of working and to learn from people internal and external to the organisation; to develop new skills and knowledge required for this role.
If you are passionate about making the world a better place for people with a learning disability and if you are a skilled communicator with an ability to work and build relationships with a variety of different stakeholders, we want to hear from you.
Interviews will be held face to face in London on the 19th or 20th August with a second stage shortly after.
