Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young students with special educational needs? We're looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at our SEN upper school in OX33.
Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs, focusing on their safety, emotional well-being, and educational growth. You'll work closely with the Head of Learning or a designated teacher to deliver the curriculum both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting Students:
  • Provide individual or small group support to assist students' physical, emotional, educational, and social development.
  • Encourage independent learning through structured activities and programs.
  • Build nurturing relationships that boost students' self-esteem, independence, and resilience.
  • Promote an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and supported.

Classroom Support:
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering customised lesson plans for students.
  • Maintain a well-organised, supportive classroom environment.
  • Ensure smooth transitions between different activities throughout the school day.
  • Track and report on student progress and achievements.

Additional Duties:
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Supervise students during non-class times, including before and after school and during lunchtimes.
  • Assist with school trips and external activities.
  • Uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.

Person Specification:
Essential:
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
  • At least one year of experience as a Teaching Assistant or Classroom Assistant.
  • Understanding of educational practices related to child welfare and education.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students and colleagues and work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable:
  • Additional qualifications in Education.
  • Experience with SEMH, ASD, and other special educational needs.
  • Proficiency in ICT and a First Aid qualification.

Requirements:
  • Adherence to the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Completion of an Enhanced Disclosure check upon appointment.
  • Flexibility to attend meetings outside regular school hours when needed.
  • Physical capability to engage in Restrictive Physical Interventions if required.
