Productivity and Process Improvement Engineer

We are looking for an experienced “Process Timing & Improvement Engineer” (Productivity Analyst), to add to our team of productivity & process engineers. The right person will be qualified and experienced in carrying out work studies of various types of manufacturing processes. Having worked in productivity for a few years you will know how to capture accurate timing data, propose productivity improvements, then successfully implement via a plan into operational areas. Ideally the right candidate will have knowledge of the following:


Responsibilities and duties :


Primary:

  • Carry out rated work studies and timing calculations for production processes.
  • Calculate timing data, using observed times, RA & ineffective time.
  • Propose improvements based on the data collected.
  • Implement agreed changes via Timing & BOM changes (system), Kaizen & team events (shopfloor).
  •  Create and maintain a timing study database across manufacturing processes.
  •  Determine process capacity based on process time and variant mix.
  •  Carry out cost saving projects – Productivity, Quality, or waste reduction.
  •  Lead continuous improvement projects on the shopfloor when needed.
  •  Use sound methodology for Continuous Improvement projects. Utilising Lean Manufacturing, productivity analysis, and WCM.


Secondary:

  •  Create process documentation in the form of Standard Operating Procedures and Visual Aids.
  • Check and Correct the BOM and routings on the system.
  • Commission, cost and purchase the correct and appropriate tooling for assembly/manufacturing processes.      
  • Create safe, repeatable and efficient processes for existing products and NPI.
  • Follow NPI into Trail builds & production, create processes, layouts & set up tooling.
  • Carry out any other reasonable requests from management that are within your capability.


“Ideal” candidate :


  • Qualified to HND/ HNC, in an appropriate Engineering discipline or above.
  • Experience carrying out timing studies on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Experience in the “Yellow goods” or “Automotive” industry either for OEM or first tier supplier.
  • Knowledge & Experience of Manufacturing processes, specifically - Laser, Press, CNC Lathe & Weld.
  • Knowledge & Experience of Assembly processes & and understanding of best practice.
  • Continuous Improvement experience, actively implementing on the shopfloor.
  • Six Sigma Qualification.
  • Timing Study Certification (IMS Productivity Analysist).


Should have experience of the following :


  • Manufacturing and/or Assembly background.
  • Time Study experience & capability.
  • Process Improvement knowledge and experience.
  • Liaising between Engineering/Design/Manufacturing/materials/logistics, ensuring feasibility of implementation.
  • Lean manufacturing implementation – WCM, Lean, Six Sigma, Visual management, CI & Process Improvement.
  • Problem solving methodology (such as 8D).
  • New product introduction – knowledge and experience.
  • Have a hands-on approach and a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to create real world solutions, to real world problems.
  • Good PC skills (MS Office, CAD)
  •  Summarise study data into simple reports and charts.
