Our client is an internationally renowned Principal Railway Contractor working within the UK construction, freight and plant market. They provide turnkey solutions across Major Projects within rail and infrastructure, including design, engineering, project management, construction and maintenance solutions.


They are currently recruiting for a Senior Engineering Buyer, with a railway industry background, to join their established Procurement Team.


Senior Engineering Buyer roles and responsibilities:


As a senior member within the procurement team, you will have primary responsibility for the procurement of parts and services supporting the maintenance plan and wider team. You will have regular interaction with key stakeholders, both internal (Finance, Commercial, Engineering etc.) and external (clients and suppliers) and will be able to communicate effectively across the business and external partners. Key responsibility will include, but not limited to:


  • Request quotations, raise requisitions for the provision of services and acknowledge/process the receipt of services.
  • Maintain and validate Purchase Order Numbers and Supplier Invoices, including managing any invoice queries in a timely manner.
  • Work with Commercial team to provide budgeting support, forecasting and period-end reporting.
  • Management of asset and maintenance list, raising work orders and ensuring that all items are sent away for repair in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the procurement of parts and services to support the maintenance plan.
  • Request quotations from external suppliers and raise requisitions for the provision of services.


Senior Buyer requirements


  • ONC/HNC/HND/Degree related qualification in a procurement, commercial or an engineering related subject, or hold CIPS Level 4 qualification.
  • Previous railway sector experience essential, with freight/plant maintenance experience an advantage.
  • Understanding of best practice supply chain management tools and practises.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to control and monitor budgets.
  • MCIPS or equivalent is desirable, including ‘working towards’
  • IT literate and proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office packages and Procurement software.
  • Strong people skills with the ability to liaise with all levels of personnel.
