AsClinical Lead you will provide strong leadership to the clinical practitioner and clinical support workforce in our urgent care settings. You will ensure that the service is of high quality, safe, and effective.

You will manage the performance of the clinical team, provide clinical supervision, and contribute to service improvement. As a senior member of the service management team, you will share responsibility with the Medical Lead and Service Manager for the overall safety and effectiveness of the service.

Key Responsibilities:

Delivering Results/Functional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Service Manager/Group Director of Nursing and Quality to ensure daily clinical management and performance of the site, achieving key performance indicators (KPIs), quality indicators, and productivity outcomes.
  • Establish and embed performance management and escalation processes.
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of Clinical Governance, including incident management, feedback, complaints, and audits, ensuring CQC compliance for the site.
  • Lead internal and external clinical governance meetings.
  • Foster collaborative and effective working relationships among clinical colleagues to achieve service objectives.
  • Provide narrative for quality performance reports in conjunction with the Service Manager and Group Director of Nursing and Quality.
  • Drive continuous quality improvement and service development in collaboration with the Service Manager, Group Director of Nursing and Quality, and Clinical Governance team.
  • Understand skill mix and recruitment requirements, working with the talent acquisition team to ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Ensure appropriate training, induction, and support for clinical staff to function effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and mandatory training requirements for clinical staff.
  • Manage cost controls to meet budget targets.
  • Implement and embed service and organizational processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead investigations related to complaints, incidents, and serious incidents, adhering to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards at all times, including Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.
  • Take responsibility, with support from the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) lead, for infection prevention and control.
  • Take responsibility, with support from the Safeguarding team, for meeting safeguarding commitments.
  • Promptly disseminate required communications to clinical staff and ensure appropriate actions are taken.

Engaging People/Key Working Relationships:

  • Lead meetings and provide constructive input that supports service aims.
  • Attend and contribute to local and group meetings, providing timely information as needed.
  • Foster effective communication and engagement within the site team to create a culture of openness and inclusion.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal colleagues, fostering collaboration between operational and clinical teams.
  • Participate in staff surveys and support the development and implementation of action plans.

Management and Leadership:

  • Provide visible leadership and clear direction to clinical staff, holding them accountable for quality and performance.
  • Directly line manage non-medical clinicians on site, ensuring a supportive and professional environment of service excellence.
  • Conduct annual appraisals and monthly one-to-ones, set SMART objectives, and track progress.
  • Collaborate with HR to support individuals in achieving clinical revalidation for professional registration.
  • Ensure the health and wellbeing of clinical staff, addressing concerns effectively.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and mentoring to staff as required.
  • Provide performance and audit feedback to direct reports, documenting development plans as needed.
  • Identify and address performance management, conduct, and competency issues in line with HR policies and procedures.

Setting Direction and Service Improvement:

  • Provide input to the delivery strategy and support the implementation of initiatives in line with the strategy.
  • Offer insight and intelligence to the Service Manager/Deputy Director of Operations regarding potential threats and opportunities to the services in the area.
  • Manage and deliver activities to ensure safe and effective service delivery.
  • Contribute to quality improvement plans, showcasing best practices and suggesting improvements.
  • Analyze management information and intelligence with the site manager/medical lead to identify areas for performance improvement.
  • Support working groups to deliver clinical and quality performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues, stakeholders, and commissioners to develop and implement new models of care.
  • Develop a local succession plan to enable non-medical clinical staff to advance their careers and maintain key functions during staff absence.
  • Foster a positive culture that supports staff development and retention through personal engagement with direct reports and colleagues.

Other Responsibilities: As part of your role, you may be required to take on additional responsibilities on behalf of the service, such as CQC Registered Manager, Health and Safety Lead, Infection Prevention and Control Lead, Fire Warden, and Communications Lead. Training and support will be provided by the organization for these responsibilities.

Qualification, Experience, Training,

  • Degree level or equivalent qualification / equivalent level of experience with a willingness to undertake masters level qualification.
  • Registered Nurse or Registered Paramedic or Registered Allied Health Professional with current registration
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification (e.g. ENB 997, 998, PGD Cert) and/or mentorship course
  • Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
  • Evidence of qualification in advanced clinical practice.

Salary - up to £57, 349 plus HCAS allowance as applicable.
