A special educational needs school in Sheffield are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to support pupils on a full-time basis (term time only).
The school caters for pupils aged 11 -19 years with ASC (Autistic Spectrum Conditions) SCLN (Speech, language, and communication needs) and other complex needs across a number of sites in the area. They require a Learning Support Assistant, ideally with previous experience providing support for young people with additional needs, and who is committed to increasing life chances for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to join their great team.
The role of Learning Support Assistant will involve working on a 1:1 and small group basis, to support and provide guidance to encourage their engagement in learning within their classroom environment as well as their personal and social development during socialising periods through break and lunch times. The ideal candidate for this role will be resilient, caring and nurturing, with a desire to make a positive impact to the education journey for children and young people.
Within the role you are required to:
* Provide calming and nurturing support for learners, encouraging their independence and rewarding progression milestones.
* Attend to the pupil's personal needs, implement related personal programmes, and support pupils who may have complex medical needs.
* Providing support to pupils who need assistance with personal care and feeding.
* To support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning
The successful candidate will:
* Ability to relate well to pupils and young adults with additional needs, experience of working with SEN would be advantageous, personal experience is hugely relevant, but a character fit is most important.
* Minimum Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in schools or equivalent
* Have experience in an education or health care setting, and be able to liaise with a large, multi-disciplinary team
* Have excellent communication skills and will be responsible for providing feedback to pupils and their parents/carers on a regular basis
* Ideally have a valid Team Teach certificate
* Be comfortable with personal care and support feeding due to the complexity of pupil needs
* Liaise with parents/carers and a multi-disciplinary team to ensure holistic support for pupils and provide a wide range of experience
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop a happy, safe, and stimulating learning environment which meets pupils' physical, academic, social and emotional needs
* Support young people to develop their confidence, resilience, and independence for life beyond school
* Support teachers in the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum which meets individual needs and prepares pupils for employment and success after their school journey
* Be resilient, not easily offended and have the skills to de-escalate sometimes challenging situations.
* Be able to remain calm under pressure.
* Be confident, passionate, and highly motivated.
* Be vigilant in identifying safeguarding concerns and following protocol.
